Bishop Means Business On Ban Over Gay Marriage Vote
http://www.wpix.com/wpix-bishop-gay-marriage,0,711608.story

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN (PIX11)— The leader of the Brooklyn Diocese is punishing elected officials who voted for the same-sex marriage bill.

Two days after the measure passed, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio announced that anyone who voted for it would be banned from honoring students or even appearing at Catholic schools and parishes.

He called the bill, which takes effect later this month, "another nail in the coffin of marriage."

Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, who represents Brooklyn's 50th district, is proof the Bishop means business.

Lentol, who is Catholic and voted in favor of the same-sex marriage bill, sent a $50 dollar check to honor a student at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel's Parish School in Williamsburg, only to have it rejected.

The check was returned to him, along with a letter from the church's pastor, Monsignor Joseph Calise.

The letter stated that "Bishop DiMarzio has requested that all gifts received from politicians supporting same-sex marriage legislation be refused."
