Gay Protestors Barred From US Naval Academy
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/10/102005soulforce.htm

A gay rights group planning to protest the military's ban on openly gay service members at the U.S. Naval Academy has been told protesters will be arrested if they step on campus.

The gay rights group, Soulforce, planned to bring about 60 protesters to the Annapolis gates of the Naval Academy Friday, with the goal of getting inside and talking to midshipmen about the military's stance on gay service members.
Naval Academy officials told the group they won't be allowed on campus, calling the protest a "disruption."

"Our policy is to decline any special interest groups from coming aboard the academy to advocate their own causes, business interests and advance personal agendas," academy spokesman Cmdr. Rod Gibbons said in a statement.

1. While I appreciate the CDR's reading of the policy
I would like to see all homosexuals who went to or are now going to the Academy to hold a protest of current policies. That might be a larger group than would be anticipated.

2. Question for you, Chief....Aren't the military academies considered
to be active military bases? Seems like I remember reading that somewhere. If so, it could explain why they refuse to allow a protest.

3. Yes they are and I support
the need to keep demonstrators off the property. I also support overturning don't ask, don't tell and allowing all Americans to freely serve their country as they choose and to get an appointment to one of the academys if they cut it academically and physically regardless of their sexual orientation. Back in the 80's when women were first allowed on ships, some of them became known as the Love Boats, since the women onboard were getting pregnant at an alarming rate. Guess that sexual activity wasn't put under the right wing morality microscope. And believe me, lose a few hands in this department and a few hands in that department and you are really cranking up the workload on who's left.
