Your brain's sex can make you ill
Looks like sexual orientation and gender identity is hard wired into the brain, which contradicts those that claim that being LGBT is nothing but a choice of lifestyles. They will ignore this science as they have ignored any science that contradicts their Bibles.

Your brain's sex can make you ill
By Michelle Roberts
BBC News health reporter

Scientists say they have proof that the sex of the brain makes men and women more prone to different diseases.

Doctors know that women are more likely than men to have depression, anxiety or an eating disorder, while men are at higher risk of Parkinson's disease.

Post-mortem and brain imaging studies show that male and female brains are physically different.

<snip>

The sex of a brain is decided in the mother's womb and depends, among other factors, on hormone levels.

Higher levels of testosterone makes a male brain and oestrogen a female one.

Professor Dick Swaab from The Netherlands Institute for Brain Research in Amsterdam, said the proof for this comes from studies of transsexuals - people who know, often from a very early age, that they are born in the wrong gender body.

2. Fascinating study
I've always wondered why gay men suffer from depression at a higher rate than straight men and this may explain it. The only other explanations I've ever heard are that gay men have a higher rate od depression because they are dealing with a homophobic world or gay men are treated for more depression than straight men because they are more in touch with their emotion and willing to seek help.

There are definitely "female" elements that are dominant in my brain (high levels of empathy, making decisions based on emotion, very nurturing, etc.) but I've also go some "male" parts that kick in, like my map reading skills and abstract reasoning. It would be interesting to understand how many skills are innate and gender-specific and how many are learned or conditioned.

6. Hey thanks, IndianaGreen. Interesting test!
I scored about where I thought I would overall ... a "slightly female" brain. I was amazed I did so well on the "eyes" portion of the test. I only missed one. Guess I'm even more empathetic than I thought. I also score pretty well on the spatial relationship portion of the test, so that raised my "male" score a bit (and no doubt keeps me from being a complete queen except when it comes to killing spiders and changing tires). :D

That is a really interesting test and lots of food for thought. I bookmarked it to share with friends.

Oh man ... his parents should have been waaay more careful when choosing a name for their son!

But seriously, I agree with kweerwolf ... it really is a fascinating study. Too bad the wingnuts don't read. :eyes:

5. Women more likely than men to have an eating disorder...
And that's hardwired into the brain at birth? I don't think so.
