ACLU defends actions in gay mother case
LAFAYETTE — The American Civil Liberties Union, now faced with a defamation lawsuit from a local teacher, stood by its allegations that the teacher inappropriately disciplined a student last year for explaining to another student that his mother was gay.

“We feel confident that this lawsuit will be dismissed. It has always been clear that (the child) was disciplined for talking about his family,” the nonprofit group said in a written statement issued Wednesday.

Ernest Gallet Elementary School teacher Terry Bethea, who is on sabbatical this year, and her husband filed a lawsuit this week seeking unspecified damages for injured reputations and emotional suffering in connection with the national media attention Bethea received after the ACLU became involved in the case on behalf of lesbian mother Sharon Huff and her 8-year-old son.

1. Yeah, it's tough when you play out your homohatred on an 8-yr-old
and somebody calls you on it. If you don't want national media attention, don't be such a hateful bitch.

2. The funny part is, the discipline slip that the teacher signed is public
Here it is:

For those of you who don't want to download the graphics file, the discipline slip says:

Student Behavior Contract

He explained to another child that you are gay (the word gay is underlined three times) and what being gay means.

In the section explaining this egregious offense, the student commits (in bad English, apparently this teacher spends more time teaching hate than grammar):

1) What I did: I sed bad wurds. (i.e. mom is gay, saying that is bad)

2) What happened because of what I did: Lineing up fur riyses.

3) What I should have done: Cep my mouf shut.

That's an open-and-shut case, nasty teacher will lose, and I hope the mother and the ACLU countersue to recover their costs.

4. God, reading that note just makes me want to cry.
He said a "bad word"???? How DARE she tell him that gay is a bad word. By that logic, his mother is a bad thing. And to make him write that down, and that he should have "kept his mouth shut." Oh, man, that just chokes me up. I HATE it when people do such mean things to kids.
