Mary Cheney takes job with AOL.
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 04:58 PM by terrya
Just in case you were looking for that final reason to give up AOL. This should convince you.

BTW: I see in this article that Ms. Traitor to the Gay and Lesbian Community has her book out in 2006. I think there should be protests by GLBT folks in every city her book tour takes her.

Mary Cheney takes a job at AOL

After stumping for her father’s vice presidential campaign last year, Mary Cheney, the lesbian daughter of Dick Cheney, has returned to the private sector with a marketing position at AOL. Cheney will be working under AOL vice chairman Ted Leonsis, who leads the company’s Audience Business, a marketing division of the internet behemoth that seeks to grow AOL’s Internet audience via Web-based programming and products, sources tell Advocate.com.

AOL is owned by the world’s largest media company, Time Warner, known for gay-friendly practices. Time Warner offers workplace protections for gay and lesbian employees as well as providing benefits for same-sex domestic partners equal to those for heterosexual married couples.

Cheney’s new job comes after the March announcement that she sold Simon and Schuster the rights to a memoir for an advance of about $1 million. The book is expected in May 2006.

Prior to serving as an aide to her father and becoming fodder in the national debate over same-sex marriage in the 2004 election, Cheney was a corporate relations manager at Coors Brewing Co. In that position she provided outreach to gays and lesbians who had turned from Coors because of the company’s right-wing policies in the 1970s, which included funneling money to antigay causes. 1. Ummmm ... I assume you meant to post this:

6. LOL ... Not offended, but ROFL ...
At least you didn't take the low road and suggest Mary would make a better spokesperson for Snap-On Tools.

Groan! Did I really say that?
:spank:

8. `Tis always better to take the high road.
The air is fresher, the view is prettier, and the elevation makes it much easier to piss on the people taking the lower road.

5. After Steve Case and his wife gave money to ...
... the fun-D'uh-Mentalists at Coral Ridge Ministries a few years ago I dropped AOL.

I'm surprised that an openly LGBT person would work for AOL ... but then it is Mary ("I'm in/I'm out") Cheney, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

7. If Time-Warner is being so gay-friendly,
they should have known that Mary Cheney would be the last person they should add to their organization.

My AOL is already history.

9. Gave up AOL long ago...
...and never looked back. I'm not surprised she's gotten herself into an organization that is out of touch with information technology. I just hope her career and life doesn't end up in the same place as those annoying AOL promo CDs that keep finding themselves in the mailbox.
