The appeals court granted a motion by Attorney General Mike Cox delay a lower court's decision until the issue can be decided by the appeals court. The court also agreed to speed up the timetable for hearing the appeal.
Ingham County Circuit Judge Joyce Draganchuk ruled in September that a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage does not prevent the state from offering health insurance benefits to the same-sex partners of state workers. (story)
