Mich. Appeals Court Halts Same-Sex Benefits Ruling

The Michigan Court of Appeals on Monday halted a ruling from going into effect that would have allowed governments and public universities to provide health insurance to the partners of gay employees.

The appeals court granted a motion by Attorney General Mike Cox delay a lower court's decision until the issue can be decided by the appeals court. The court also agreed to speed up the timetable for hearing the appeal.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Joyce Draganchuk ruled in September that a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage does not prevent the state from offering health insurance benefits to the same-sex partners of state workers. (story)

1. I knew this would be coming

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it makes it to the SCOTUS. Then I think we could be in real trouble, with the new appointments.
