Gays & Conservatives Energized By Canadian Marriage Ruling

Gays are looking north with envy but conservatives are showing contempt and condemnation for Canada's stance on same-sex marriage.

Both sides are citing Canada as a major influence on how the issue is viewed in the United States after word Canada's Supreme Court cleared the way Thursday for a federal vote on legalizing the practice. (story)

With its liberal leanings already a flashpoint in the fallout from the recent U.S. election that returned George W. Bush to the White House, Canada was again getting a lot of play in American media organizations.


I saw a poll taken recently in Canada and it said that 71% were in favor of same-sex marriage

1. religious freedom

I saw this Canadian ruling covered on BBC last night, and they framed it in an interesting fashion, noting that a ruling vindicating the right of same-sex marriage was a ruling in favor of "religious freedom." It was no tongue-in-cheek report; just straight (no pun intended!) news.

I never thought of this issue in this manner: That if any church wants to marry two men or two women, then said church should have the right to do so if a nation does indeed claim to have religious freedom.

Why doesn't the rancid U.S. media cover this issue from this point of view???????

I guess here, religious freedom means freedom for the fundies to rule us all.
