I live in a place with 50k. I think it is getting a bit more common for gays and lesbians to live in little towns. I have been pleasantly surprised at the ability to find both people and places here.

7. I live in a medium town (just over 20k) |

But I'll be moving soon, and don't know exactly what size town/city I'll end up in. I won't end up in a large city, but a small city is possible.

Much smaller w/o the students... but then again, not a "typical" town of its size anyway...

11. Well I don't consider Sacramento a really large city |
|
with a population of a little over 300,000 -- the metro area is a million plus.
Pretty liberal city with a small gay area (a couple of blocks) and disappointing number of gay clubs and hang-outs
The police chief has been quoted as saying he's not aware of any openly gay cops on the force, which is too bad.
The Sacramento area is surrounded by nothing but "red" counties....primarily Placer and El Dorado where you see lots of cars with "W" and support the troops stickers. :puke:
Fortunately, San Francisco is close!
