Mitt Romney Seen As 'Too Gay Tolerant' For GOP Right
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/010206romney.htm

He opposes gay marriage, refuses to allow out-of-state same-sex couples wed, and supports amending the state constitution to bar gay nuptials, but for many in the the right wing of the Republican Party Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney still is too tolerant of gays and lesbians to get their support for a presidential bid.

They point to a 17 year old Massachusetts law that allows governors to issue one-day certificates to officiate at weddings. Romney has been granting dozens of those certificates to people who want to perform same-sex weddings for friends and relatives.

The certificates cost $25. The Boston Globe reports that last year Romney approved 189 requests for special certificates used by people who performed same-sex marriages.

Conservative Republicans, the base of the party, say Romney is pandering to gays and it could cost him the party's nomination for President.

what do these people want--Romney to start rounding up gays and putting them into concentration camps--silly me OF COURSE THEY DO!

1. Or ... are they HAPPY Romney is doing it ..
so that they can fire up their mentally-twisted base and keep the money flowing in to their ever-so-political "non-profits?"

Tinfoil Hat Me goes back and forth as to what they are REALLY up to.

4. I simply don't know how to address this problem.
I went over there to Talk2Action, the new site that collects information on the Religious Reich. It DOES have good information - but no one is offering solutions on how to stop people from giving money to these hateful organizations.

As you know, I'm a vice president in the local PFLAG. Progress seems so slow in terms of educating adults.

I think the solution lies in our youth; the youth have really got the Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs going strong.

And the youth are definitely progressive, pro-human-rights, and pro-choice.

I just hope they stay that way.

Thoughts?

As long as money controls the political process, but if it didn't....

7. You know, that's what my hubby said!

I was going on about the problem, and suddenly, he starts talking about the clean-money campaign, and efforts to keep Big Money from controlling everything.

He saw the connection.

He was way ahead of me.

You're right.

Check out that campaign. Bill Moyers made a "commercial" for them that they use at presentations. Different politicians agree to only receive the clean money/stipulated amount (they have to agree to the whole thing due to constitutional issues; the courts have said that it is unconstitutional to prohibit someone from using their own millions to fund a campaign).

http://www.caclean.org/ .

I think they are trying to organize this type of thing in various states.

On edit:
The Religious Reich is already attacking progressively-minded religions; they have attacked the United Church of Christ, the Unitarian-Universalists, Unity and Religious Science - calling any organization that doesn't share their hardright views 'a cult.'

I have to debunk this with my relatives all of the time.

Check out how they told Barry Lynn he wasn't a REAL minister (scroll down to the bottom of the letter):

Mitt Romney...a friend of the GLBT community. Only in the troglodyte, hatemongering wing of the Republican Party could that even be seriously considered as fact

5. Like I said above.
I can't even imagine where these individuals' heads are at, so-to-speak.

8. Romney is a Mormon so he is
a heretic and non-christian in the eyes of the fundies. But they can't openly say that.

10. That's exactly what it is
They have this weird bigoted thing going on with Mormons. I'm sure there is some bizarre theological explanation, but the fundamentalists do despise the Mormons.
