Canadian PM Rejects Gay Marriage Referendum
http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/12/121304canVote.htm

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has turned down a call to put same-sex marriage to voters.

Following last week's Supreme Court ruling that paves the way for federal legislation to legalize gay marriage the provi9nce of Alberta has called for the issue to be put before the electorate in a national referendum.

"I think that this is an issue that Parliamentarians ought to decide,'' Martin told the Canadian Press on Sunday before addressing a meeting in his Montreal-area riding. ``The courts have now given their direction. I think it's one for Parliament and I think that Parliament ought to accept their responsibility.''

the PM of Alberta is a right wing asshole-he just wants to make the feds sweat on this

the last poll I saw was 71% in favor of gay marriage
