More Stations Drop 'Book Of Daniel'
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/011106daniel.htm

Two more stations have cancelled NBC's "The Book of Daniel" bringing the total to four.

KAMR-TV in Amarillo, Texas, and WTVA-TV in Tupelo, Mississippi each said they were bowing to community demands to drop the series which features one of primetime's few openly gay male characters, has a lesbian supporting character and is written by a gay screenwriter.

"The Book of Daniel" stars Aidan Quinn (“An Early Frost”) as the Reverend Daniel Webster an unconventional Episcopalian minister who not only believes in Jesus - he actually sees him and discusses life with him.

His children include Peter (Christian Campbell, “Trick”), a 23-year-old gay son, who struggles with the loss of his twin brother. To confound matters even more, Peter is a Republican.

I'm getting to the point where I'm not that worried about this--Amarillo and Tupelo are not mainstream America

1. I liked it
but wow, that was one wealthy preacher. I've been Episcopalian for almost six decades and never met a priest with that kind of house. Must have married money!

3. I thought this show was really funny a la 'Six Feet Under'
or 'Desparate Housewives'. How dumb to bow to the fundies. They'd better not try it here! :grr:

4. You best keep being concerned. The intention is to keep
pushing on every level around the country. I view this as an attack on religious freedom, since the people organizing this effort are not of the Episcopal faith, the very faith being portrayed by them main character in the program.

5. I love being Episcopalian -- All the pageantry....
...without the guilt. Seriously. Word.
It's kinda like "Catholic Lite." I don't mean that in a disparaging way.
you get to think for yourself.

6. I love it, too
it is so much a part of who I am. The music is exquisite. I've spent my life doing a lot of church related art, from vestments to windows.

7. I first became enamored with the church when it stood up for..
...two American Indian kids accused of murder in South Dakota. they killed a white rancher.
...there wasn't much doubt about their guilt. they had all the evidence they needed.
...the question was whether they could be kept off death row.
....the church, esp. from Mn, sent priests AND attorneys to see that these teens (though adults) got a fair trial.
....it took incredible nerve because at the time, those youths were the object of hatred and derision in South Dakota.
....As I recall, they avoided a death penalty, which was seen as miraculous. My mother followed the whole thing,
....was a big supporter.
