Utah State Sen. Pushes Bill To Ban School Gay Clubs
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/011606utah.htm

State Senator Chris Buttars took his campaign to ban gay-straight clubs to Utah's most outspoken conservative group on the weekend.

Buttars told the Eagle Forum his bill to ban the clubs from meeting on school property will be introduced in the Utah Senate this year.

"This gay issue is everywhere -- they're getting into everything," he told the group's annual convention at Salt Lake Community College's Redwood campus in Taylorsville.

Buttars accused gays of changing the landscape of morality in America.

3. because the state and/or the school board have the power to limit clubs
BUT, the federal bill passed a few years ago that was meant to force districts that receive federal funds (all of them!) to allow bible clubs has been used to force district to accept ALL student clubs

5. The phrase "grandstanding pussy" comes to mind for
state senators who victimize subgroups in the general population to advance their own ego-fueled careers.

Shame on Chris Buttars.

6. I thought this was already settled by the courts
If you allow non-academic clubs, you can not prohibit gay student unions and the like. If you wish to prohibit gay student clubs, you must ban all non-academic clubs.

7. Why must people like that make a war on everything
I'm glad for all the students that have LGBT clubs at their school. It creates a safe place where they can just be themselves. Identity is so important to developing teenagers. I wish I had that when I was in school.

8. Well, well, well. No surprise that but another Republican *ss is
making money and votes off the backs of minorities. What else is new about the political party that enjoys -- no, espouses in its platform -- excluding people from its ranks? And, who the hell cares if this *ss is legally incorrect? Hhhmmmm? Does it truly make a difference in Utah if jerks like these get votes off the backs of GLBTs who are wronged? Where will the story be that challenges him? Buried on page what? Or not at all?

This is why state constitutions are interpreted by courts, i.e., in order to opine about minority rights that are trammeled by jerks who live in red states such as Utah. And, if states cannot uphold minority rights, then take it to the federal court level for a U.S. constitutional issue. Oh, sheesh, then there's that Alito guy . . . Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Thomas w/ Kennedy as the swing guy.
