Emotional Hearing On Washington Gay Rights Bill

Emotions ran high as Washington state lawmakers heard from citizens on a proposed LGBT civil rights bill.

"For those individuals and groups who see the gay and lesbian members of our communities as a threat, look again and see the constellation of parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters and friends who stand behind them," Marilyn Cass, of the Catholic Parents Support Group told the House State Government Operations & Accountability Committee. "You also judge and discriminate against us," she said.

Cass told the committee that 20 years ago her oldest son came out to her. She said that despite some churches, including her own, that oppose the bill, her faith "compels me to advocate for fairness."

"This is not the same as the efforts in the civil rights era to stamp out discrimination against race and other historically protected groups," he said. "This is a behavior-based classification."

Fine. Heterosexuality is a behavior too . . . so if sexual orientation ain't a protected set of behaviors, then I can fire your ass for behaving like a hetero.

I just have a hard time believing that people can truly be THIS stupid and THIS obsessed with something as abstract and hidden from view as what somebody else chooses to do with their hoo haws. In private.

I have never seen one of my coworkers fuck. And fucking, as far as I know, is the most readily obvious proof of orientation for people with little imagination.

I have no way of proving that anyone is gay or straight. None at all. Just take their word for it? Who cares, and why would they care? I sure don't.
