Canadian Conservative Leader: No Rush To Ban Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/011906canada.htm

Stephen Harper says outlawing gay marriage won't be one of his top priorities if elected, and that efforts by the Senate to block such a bill would amount to an ``abuse of power.''

Two days after saying that a Liberal-dominated Senate would be a check on Tory power, the Conservative leader signaled that he expects the high chamber to defer to Parliament on such contentious issues.

``I'd prefer that the unelected chamber would respect the decisions of the chamber elected by the people,'' he said Thursday during a final push for support in vote-laden Ontario.

``That's why after an election we'll ask the MPs elected by the people their opinion on controversial questions that were issues in this campaign.

1. The Liberal Senate is not enough.
The Cons must lose the election on Monday.

3. Harper... just tell us about the deal you struck with the NDP.. where

they wouldn't criticize you on your plans to undo social policies but go solely after the Liberals. Cause it is looking like the NDP made a "Sophie's Choice". More power for them - at the expense of giving you wing-nuts a stab at changing the social conscience of the whole country.

I wonder if a minority government is going to last long enough to get the rich used to holding all those extra tax dollars in their hot little hands.

7. Cons & NDP did a deal to bring down the government. Seems that

deal has gone on. Layton (NDP) has kept mum on attacking Harper on his statements or policy differences. There have been some "kissy kissy" issues brought up in the last while. One being that the first past the post election practice works in the favour of the Liberals and not for the 2nd or 3rd placed party (usually cons & NDP). Another "kissy kissy" issue would be an elected senate (ours is still appointed - they don't vote with any power on bills - they just sit on committees and the like, again more power to the NDP & the cons structurally).

Seems Layton has made a terribly pragmatic choice this election.. not to make the issues the issues (the issues that Harper would undo.. Kyoto, social programs, sinking country in bathtup, going into debt, tax cuts that overtly favour rich, child care, missile defence, unions, native issues, public health, schools, etc).

The former NDP leader, Ed Broadbent, a terribly well respected MP and then Executive Director of a Human Rights group - had a melt-down on TV today. There is definitely psychic shock going on. Which is hard to watch. Fear, Anger, isolation. It means that there is a psychopath in the house. And of course that means that what the neocon "Australian" political consultant of neocon Stephen Harper has been up to no good. Because the Liberals and NDP are at each other's throats. If only I could be a fly (or chip) in a blackberry. But the victims (bewildered, angry, afraid, shaking)are not the psychopaths.. it is always the other "one" across the room waiting and watching for the fallout when two "realities" hit each other like Island India hit continental Asia.

It is a crying shame. And it is very dangerous. And it hurts a great deal.

4. Harper's party & minions is based on pro-life & anti-gay retoric.
His people have been talking that up for a decade. But he claims none of those things will be touched.. even as his candidates in the riding are talking that way.

One candidate said it out loud and it was reported. The talking heads in the conservative party are saying it is not true.

5. Isn't it nice that he is putting Canadian minds to rest?
I'm sure that he's just doing this out of the kindness of his heart...
