Gay marriage south of the Mason-Dixon line |
|
Think what a powerful message that will send, if we win the Maryland battle. Gay marriage in the capital's backyard and in the (nominal) south -- right next to anti-gay Virginia.
We've gotta win this one. It's crucial.

My Republican in-laws in Louisiana will never ever support gay marriage or civil unions. :( They are Republican Catholics.
Hell, they didn't even invite the gay step-son to his father's funeral and the father refused to ask his gay son to come see him on the father's deathbed. They even left him out of the obituary (while listing the two stepchildren and the other son who had pre-deceased the father and gay brother.) It was awful. :( However, we had no control over the situation. We were there to support my sister-in-law. It was a truly sad and tragic situation. :(
But, perhaps other citizens will. This needs to be framed as denial of rights enjoyed by other citizens therefore it is unequal treatment under the law based on sexual preference and/or gender.

Gay rights must be framed as human rights, and the bigotry of the right against people based solely upon what goes on when the lights go off on a par with the bigotry of Bull Connor, George Wallace, the Klan and Lester Maddox.

4. Unfortunately, many of those who oppose gay rights |
|
also are racist and xenophobic (my in-laws being a case study.) I still love them but we simply have to agree to disagree and avoid those topics of converstion. Mr. CB and have have very little immediate family left (only my mom is alive among our parents) and his sister in LA is his only sibling. We are the ONLY Democrats in our respective families. :( My sid eof the family is not so outspoken but they are racist (although you wouldn't know it from talking to them) and rather snobbish as they are very upper-middle class.

But if it's illustrated, the reasonable majority will be disgusted by such bigotry.
Most reasonable people I know are disgusted by it.

|
to talk to his son and tell him he loved him. Alas, he did not.

6. Then your BIL's son doesn't have a father. |
|
He has a "sperm donor" as the "lovely" Dr. Laura would say.
