Gay Civil Rights Bill Passes Washington House

(Olympia Washington) Legislation banning discrimination against gays, lesbians, and the transgendered in jobs and housing was passed in the state House on Friday.

The measure was approved on a 60-37 vote.

"This discrimination is a reality,” said Rep. Ed Murray (D-Seattle) leading off final debate on the bill and working diffuse critics who claim there had been no proof the legislation was needed.

The no votes came mainly from Republicans.

1. Good news!
Was it the House where it failed by one vote last time? Me thinks it was the Senate, but can't recall clearly!

3. In the last 30 years, it has usually passed the House
It's been the state Senate where it gets shot down, last year by only a single vote. Hopefully, that changes this year.

4. Yeah, I know it failed by one vote last time...
...and these numbers don't indicate it was at all close in the House!
