2nd UK Politician Comes Out
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/012606ukPoli.htm

Only days after a leading Liberal Democrat was outed a second LDP Member of Parliament says he too is gay.

Simon Hughes, a contender for the leadership of the Liberal Democrats, ended years of speculation and told the Sun newspaper that he now regrets not coming forward sooner.

<snip>

But Hughes statements now are a far cry from those of twenty-three years ago when he was involved in a bitter by-election battle with British LGBT rights advocate Peter Tatchell.

The campaign was marked by frequent homophobia with Hughes running on the slogan he was "the straight choice" candidate.

the ones who always bitch and complain the loudest are usually the ones deepest in the closet

1. People have known about Hughes for years
It's been more-or-less common knowledge in the Labour caucus and also in Westminster. Everyone was waiting for Hughes to deal with "the gay issue" before Oaten's trysts with hustlers hit the tabloid press.

It's a shame the Lib-Dems are in such trouble after such a good performance in the recent elections. I'm disgusted at how Charles Kennedy got knifed after his alcoholism supposedly made him "unfit to lead" -- this is a man who has led the Lib-Dems to their highest representation in Parliament in decades. I also warned that things weren't going to be any easier. . . thinking of Hughes's "skeletons" and having no clue about Oaten's.

Now the party, which was supposedly going to be strengthened due to the disgraceful putsch of Kennedy from Westminster, is REALLY in trouble. Whereas, had they kept Kennedy on as leader and supported him as an effective leader who is only human, none of this circus would be happening today. Oh well.

2. End of the lim dems, then.

If nothing else, they had always been CLEAN. Now they smell...

It's too late for narratives and image manipulation, LDP.

You may yet come to power, but it won't matter. You'll be no different from New Labour.

4. Well, okay.

Maybe people will even take them seriously as politicans now, paradoxically...

Don't get me wrong, I'm still voting for them...
