TransGeneration is coming out on DVD

on March 28...For those who don't have Sundance or Logo on their cable system, TransGeneration is a documentary that followed four transgendered oollege students during the 2004-2005 school year:

Raci: Philippina immigrant male to female student in California: she came from a very poor family, but is at school on scholarship,and did not have access to regular medical care. At the beginning of the series you see her buying her hormones on the street.

Gabbie: white male to female student at Univ of Colorado at Boulder. Gabbie comes from a wealthy family and in the show she is counting down the days to her surgery, which is being paid for by her parents.

TJ: Armenian graduate student studying in the US in Michigan: female to male: TJ was interesting because he is all the way out in the US but cannot be out when he returns to Cyprus. As s condition of the scholarship he is on he must return to Cyprus. His family is not supportive nor is the larger very close knit community of Armenians.

Lucas: white female to male student at Smith College: WAY super smart. You know he's going to do well. Ivy League education and his smarts equals a promising future.

I hope the DVD includes updates to what the four are doing now. What surprised me is how together these people are and they are only in their early 20s! Maybe it's on a bit torrent site. Either way it's a must see show.

And it's good to know that immigrants and foreigners are included, because for them, the experience is vastly different from that of an American white liberal.
