Soldier’s widow testifies on measure
Brandy Sacco didn’t look up as, a few feet in front of her, Topeka preacher Fred Phelps defended his right to claim her husband was burning in hell.

Her husband, Sgt. Dominic Sacco, was killed in action in Iraq in November.

Members of Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church picketed his funeral Dec. 2. But Brandy Sacco told a panel of lawmakers Wednesday there had been other incidents. She said had received anonymous phone calls with the message her husband is in hell.

Sacco told lawmakers her husband died for the church members’ right to free speech. “They choose to abuse these rights by harassment of a grieving wife and family,” she said. “Such a lack of common decency should not be protected by law but punishable by the law.”

1. What a freaking dilemma - the asshole really does have the right
to say what he wants. Perhaps the legislators could simply amend the assualt laws so that if you call someone a fag, they won't prosecute you for beating the crap out of them - that way Sicko Phelps 1st Amendment rights are still protected.

I'm thinking the group of Veteran bikers in the article would be quite satisfied with that solution.
