What to do, what to do...... |
|
On January 30th the Governor of my state, Mark Sanford (R) made a statement endorsing "Intelligent Design" into our school system. Here is his spokesman, Joel Sawyer, reiterating the Governor's position the next day. "What the governor said is simply that different people believe different things, and that we should have an educational system that recognizes and responds to the diversity of beliefs that exist among the people of South Carolina."
Here is the "What to do" part.
South Carolina is only one of two states which prohibit any public school education about homosexuality. SC CODE OF LAWS Title 59 Education: Comprehensive Health Education Program (5) The program of instruction provided for in this section may not include a discussion of alternate sexual lifestyles from heterosexual relationships including, but not limited to, homosexual relationships except in the context of instruction concerning sexually transmitted diseases.
How can I keep living in a state that picks my pocket to under-educate the children in my community? I guess I'll write the Governor and his mouth piece and see if they respond. Honestly it is getting harder to not feel oppression every day.

3. We haven't had another Civil war yet, have we? |
|
Until then the Federal Courts trump State law.

And thanks to you. I had not thought of equating to two until I read this. I am in Kansas where we do have ID and this just adds one more thing for the arsenal against the anti GLBT forces out there.

7. If he truly believes what he said... |
|
..."What the governor said is simply that different people believe different things, and that we should have an educational system that recognizes and responds to the diversity of beliefs that exist among the people of South Carolina."...then he should have no problem recognizing the obvious conflict between what he is saying and what your state is doing.
BTW, do you know what the other state is?
