NBC's profile of Johnny Weir titled, "He's Here, He's Weir"! |
|
Johnny is a US figure skater..very flamboyant. So...get what's implied? Is this offensive or cute? For the record, Weir always says who he sleeps with is none of anyone's business, so apparently the question does come up. My two cents--he's gay. Did NBC cross a line or do you think the implication went over most people's heads?

1. NBC crossed the line; but then it does every second it's on the air. |

It's the mouthpiece of those merchants of death GE, who bring death and destruction all over the world.

I would imagine he likely is gay but like most male atheletes a bit afraid to say it. Too bad he screwed up his long program. He gave a great short program though.

3. There was an article about this...some gay male skater wrote a |
|
book saying that it was death for figure skaters to come out...probably is, and hence the hesitation. I mena, figure skating is probably the gayest sport, but the organizations are deathly afraid of this open secret to truly come out.

7. It wasn't Galindo who wrote the book, though, someone else who |
|
came out long after he was done skating. There was also some British skater who died of AIDS a few years back...I guess they did a benefit or tribute, but nobody mentioned his sexuality.

Rudy Galindo has said that figure skating is a very closeted world. Because of stupid crap like this. I don't know anything about Johnny Weir. That "who he sleeps with is nobody's business" usually is code for being gay. If he's gay and when he's ready to come out, he will. It sure as hell not NBC's place to do it for him.

A wonderful quote of his
I don't think there should be one role model for all kids. I want to be a role model for kids who feel different and stifled, kids that I was like, kids who feel like they can't say what they want.
This quote says an awful lot.

I remember when he won the nationals in 1996. Ironic it was held in his home town of San Jose.
He didn't give a shit about being in the closet and it hasn't effected his carrier.
I have a funny story about La Brian Botanio. When he won in 1988 he did one of those "I'm going to Disneyland" ads. La Brian lives in San Francisco and back in the day .... I kinda looked like him. Same hair doo, same body type and so on. Soooooooo I was walking my happy ass down Market Street towards Castro and these queens in a car yelled at me "Hey Brian are you going to Disneyland?"!! I smiled, waved and grabbed my crotch.
Hope I didn't tarnish his reputation.

13. Hey, I bet he did the same whenever anyone asked him! |
|
I know someone who knows someone who slept with him! I'm sure that the story is accurate, after all, it's only hearsay from someone I don't know who doesn't know that other person!

10. I think the line would have been okay if Weir was out..... |
|
presuming he is gay, but for NBC to imply such a thing is flat wrong.
(NBC wouldn't dare try to be cute coming up with a stereotypical catch phrase about African American golfer Tiger Woods liking watermelon or fried chicken)
If in fact Weir is gay.....I bet one of the top reasons he hasn't come out is because he's worried he'd lose lucrative endorsement deals from homophobic corporate America; because he acts like the kinda guy who doesn't give a fuck what people think....he seems confident.
