"Brokeback Mountain" star of UK film awards
http://www.yahoo.com/s/274031

LONDON (Reuters) - "Brokeback Mountain," already a hot favorite for next month's Hollywood Oscars, was the big star of the night at the British Film Academy awards on Sunday, scooping four BAFTAs.

The gay cowboy love story won the coveted Best Film Award, Ang Lee was picked as Best Director, Jake Gyllenhaal was chosen as Best Supporting Actor and it also won the Best Adapted Screenplay statuette.

"I didn't have a specific message. I wasn't trying to push any political issues. We are dealing here with love," Lee told Reuters Television before accepting his award.

Gyllenhaal, flabbergasted by his triumph, shook his head in astonishment and said: "Who would have thought this would happen."

"It moved me like no other love story I have ever seen," he said of the film for which he is also Oscar-nominated.

2. FANTASTIC! I only wish Heath had gotten Best Actor, too
But there's March 5 for another try.

3. I love it when a landmark film comes along. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
is one such. Polished and rough-hewn at the same time, the film just gleams. Ang Lee lets us see the wind-blasted and dusty little towns and the red heart of love and loss all at once. It's a dazzling accomplishment in pure story-telling.

Bravo to Mr. Lee, his cast & crew, and to that unbelievably great screenplay by Larry McMurtry and Dianna Osanna.

5. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain yet, but I saw Walk the Line
yesterday for the 3rd time. I feel about it like I did Ray last year. Those are brilliant performances. Both Joachim and Reece are so close to the singing and the gestures and actions of Johnny and June that it is close to phenomenal. It would appear to me that that kind of part would be incredibly demanding and easily screwed up. Also David S's portrayal of Edward R. Murrow was dead-on. I haven't seem Capote or Brokeback; I hope to before March 5.
