http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/02/022006vaBan.htmVirginia's House of Delegates on Monday unanimously approved new wording on a ballot question that will go to voters in November seeking a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
The House had already given its approval to a summary of the proposed amendment but the summary did not mention the measure would also block civil unions and could be used to deny partner benefits.
Last week a Senate committee struck out the summary and put in the entire proposed amendment. (story) On Friday the Senate passed the new version and sent it back down to the House.
Putting the full text before voters could be an asset to the state's LGBT rights groups in fighting the measure. They say that the amendment would also block civil unions and could be used to deny benefits of any kind to unmarried couples, straight or gay.
