HHS Under Fire For Removing Gay Advice Section From Web Site
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/02/022306hhs.htm

At least one member of Congress is seeking answers to the mysterious disappearance of section on the Health and Human Services Web site that deals with gay sexuality.

The content offered advice for parents on how to talk to their children about sex, sexuality and sexual health. It contained links to a number of resources including PFLAG, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.

The material was taken down in January, 11 days after the conservative Family Research Council issued a public letter to HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt, complaining that the Web site was "loaded with biased, politically-charged language, such as condemnations of so-called 'homophobia,' 'heterosexism,' and 'sexual prejudice'".

The FRC demanded a prompt response from Leavitt. It also called on its members to contact the agency and complain that the site "uses material from pro-homosexual activist groups such as ... Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) ... "

2. That doesn't mean we should just sit here and do nothing
This is exactly when we should mount our own demanding letters...and letters to Congress. We ARE citizens of this nation too, and the Family Research Council doesn't have the right to suddenly decide MY life is "controversial" simply because THEY don't like it. This government has a responsibility to us as well, and we aren't going to get anything but stuff taken away from us as long as we refuse to stand up every time this happens.

4. kind of sad but
it's like expecting a dog with rabies not to bite you. I'm just surprised it took so long.

Maybe our next march on Washington we'll actually go visit the lawmakers en masse instead of going to all the fabulous circuit parties and sleeping in.
