Decorated Air Force nurse, barred over lesbianism, sues
Apparently, lesbians are a greater threat to the United States than terrorists or weapons of mass distraction.

Decorated Air Force nurse, barred over lesbianism, sues

By MIKE BARBER, P-I REPORTER

In 1993, Maj. Margaret Witt was a poster woman for the Air Force's flight nurse recruiting program.

In her career of 18-plus years, the decorated operating room and flight nurse from McChord Air Force Base earned stellar reviews for her work, which included helping to evacuate the nation's wounded troops and humanitarian missions to aid civilians.

In 2003, President Bush awarded her the Air Medal for her Middle East deployment and, later, the Air Force Commendation Medal, for saving the life of a Defense Department worker.

Less than a year later, after an Air Force investigation, Witt, a reservist, was drummed out.

Her offense: a committed relationship, but with another woman, a civilian, from 1997 to 2003.

2. I have one stOOpid Republican Air Force soccer mom on my team.
She can't keep her mouth shut and loves to pry into people's lives as if it's her God given right. Not a good combination. When I told her that she gets people into trouble she replied, "I live a clean life and I don't keep secrets and I've never hurt anyone." About a year ago she said that there was a new officer she was working with and that she thought she was a lesbian. The woman acted "butchie" and she thought to ask her. I told her that she could get her in trouble and she replied, "well she made it in so what can they do to her?"

Stupid woman. I'd love to give her a copy of this article, but I don't talk to the bitch anymore.

5. Her firing is such a waste of my tax money. I'm disgusted.
The only good news is that, with her experience, she will make a bundle as a nurse on the outside.

6. What a stupid thing. Stupid, stupid thing.
She's obviously more than qualified for her job, obviously top-notch. What do they care about whom she lives with or sleeps with? I don't care, her patients don't care, the doctors don't care, her fellow nurses don't care, so what's the problem? Oh yeah, our military has been taken over by idiots. Grrrrr!!!

7. No, the idiots have always been in place
The 'witch hunts' that went on in the '60's were ghastly. You'd get investigated if your roomies were accused. 'Tendencies' could do it, whatever those may be. I knew one woman who attempted suicide because she was accused.

And, for the record, it was just as bad for the men.

10. How awful!!!
This just disgusts me on such a primitive level. Why can't we just leave people alone?

8. Witch Hunt?
Real story should be;
Who started an investigation and why?

Sounds like she was complying with the policy (Don't Ask Don't Tell)
and keeping things private. So who's the homophobe out to get her?

9. Witch Hunt?
The name for a en mass accusation/investigation, usually the WAF Sq Sec, but sometimes a male unit or barracks. As said, back in the day, mere association could get you long, sweaty interviews with the OSI (Office of Special Investigations).

11. It may not have been a homophobe
A few years ago another woman officer, Air Guard as memory serves, was finked by her lover. Story goes they had a disagreeable parting of the ways and out of spite lover dropped the dime.
