Mother: I feared son would 'turn' gay
Caren MacDonald, the mother charged with snatching her 11-year-old son and fleeing the country, told a judge Monday that she feared her gay ex-husband was trying to ''turn'' their son gay.

MacDonald, who made the statement when the jury was out of the courtroom during her third day of trial, has admitted that she abducted her son from a Broward prep school in 2001 and fled with him to Costa Rica.

An artist now living in Key West, she defended her actions by alleging that she did so because of her ex-husband's gay lifestyle.

The jury was removed from the courtroom as the judge decided what portions of her testimony, including details about her ex-husband's sexual past, would be heard by the jury.

Later, when the jury returned, MacDonald talked about how, during their marriage, she suspected he was gay, describing how he started wearing ''tight-fitting'' clothes and ``looking a little gay.''

if they had born a gay child. Therefore, they have to deny that anything that came from them is gay (ie. their genes) So, they have to put responsibility on the child and social forces.

2. What a brainless, bigoted, stupid woman.
You just don't know where to start confronting the ignorance of this woman.

And, once again, in that article, we're confronted with the idea that there's a "gay lifestyle", which sets my teeth on edge.

And I share your wish about her cell mate.

3. Proof of how ignorant some people are.
What's scary is this woman is raising a child with such ignorant thoughts in her head. Any fool knows that environmental factors don't have any influence in whether a person is gay or straight, no more than environmental factors determine what color their hair is, or how tall they are.

4. Uh...she's living in Key West and worried about GAYS?
Is her son still with her?

In a related story: Circus performer moves into a tiger cage with her children after fearing they might be mauled by lions if they continued living in the lion cage.

7. I was sort of wondering the same thing.
I don't totally buy this. There's plenty of places along the U.S. she could have taken him where she would get a lot of sympathy.

daughter's middle school a woman came in to take her son for a dental appointment. When they left the office was abuzz. It seems that the woman was the boy's biological father who has recently had sex change surgery. He was formerly the coach of his son's hockey team and still attends the games with his former wife who has been very supportive. I'm sure her positive attitude has helped tremendously. A woman I was volunteering with knows the family personally and said both parents are "great people who are raising two great kids."

That Florida woman is teaching her son intolerance and homophobia and trying her hardest to turn him against his dad. For shame.

If so, how does she explain the guy's sexual orientation? After all, only gay people "turn" their kids gay, right? :sarcasm:

14. LOL
as the years pass ALL my clothes have become tight - not really a GAY thing as much as it is a Ben&Jerry's thing - although Ben and Jerry huh??

My ex-wife and I joke constantly that my son has 2 parents that are happier and better adjusted than most kids with 2 "straight" parents.

Unfortunately? Unfortunately?!?

19. Sensitive eh?
It was a sincere `unfortunatly` not a flippant one , as you ascertained...

I have an ex boyfriend who married a girl so as to cover his ass with his conservative family because he was too `afraid` to come out, some would call it cowardice. When he did come out it was very destructive on the girl he married and she was more psychologically scarred than he was.

She did not become a raving homophobe like this women in the OP did , however.
