Skinheads unite with Christians in anti-gay protest
A GROUP of skinheads and elderly Russian women holding religious icons disrupted a gay event at a Moscow nightclub, forcing clubbers to be evacuated by bus, it was reported yesterday.

More than 150 far-right activists and Orthodox Christian militants blocked the entrance to the La Guardia nightclub on Sunday.

Police had to form a chain to separate the protesters from people inside the club and the event did not take place because many of its guests could not get in.

Some of the young people started to throw eggs, tomatoes and plastic bottles when other guests began leaving the club by bus, according to television footage.

7. There is a story about something like this in America
When radical feminists unite with far-right Christian fundamentalists to stop porn and prostitution.

The result was the backstory for "A Handmaid's Tale."

9. It's easy skim over, but it's there

In bits and pieces, we find that Offred's mother was one of the radical feminist leaders who helped the religious extremists to power. Mom and her group held their noses and supported the extremists because of the promise to end the exploitation of women once they were in power. For her efforts, Mom was declared "unredeemable" and sent to a camp cleaning up radioactive and toxic waste left by the civil war, and the exploitation of women continued.

The comparison between the story, and the conservative gays supporting the GOP, is very chilling.

2. This comes as no surprise to me
I just left an office that had a rebel flag t-shirt wearing, bible thumping, walking, talking, hate machine. If you're liberal, gay or from the middle east you are an enemy to America in his (and others like him) opinion.

3. Those aren't Christians. They may say they are, but they aren't.
True Christians know it is wrong for them to judge others, and condemn them. True Christians know that they should love, accept, and not judge others. True Christians do not have the evil and anger in their hearts and souls to do such things to fellow human beings.

These people, and others, like Focus on the Family, give Christianity a bad name. It's time true Christians stand up for what's right and tell the world we don't condemn or judge, we love and accept our fellow man.

Until they do, Christianity is going to get a bad rap.

5. I agree with you 100%!
I follow the teachings of Jesus. Neither of the two groups are Christians of Jesus.

6. Update on this story
Human rights group protest Russian gay abuse

The attack by neo-fascists and religionists on a gay gathering at a Moscow nightclub has been condemned by the Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA).

GALHA has written to the Russian Ambassador in London, Yury Fedotov, to complain about this incident and the increasing persecution of gay people in Russia.

GALHA secretary George Broadhead said: "It is now clear that the combination of the Orthodox Church and the right-wing government is resulting in the targeting and scapegoating of gay people. We have asked the Russian Ambassador in London to convey our protest to the Russian Government, although we have little hope that the situation is going to change in the near future.
