Wendy's Adds Gays, Transgenders To Employment Policy
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/05/050306wendy.htm

Fast food chain Wendy's International has agreed to amend its employment nondiscrimination policy by adding new written protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity for all employees.

The change came after lobbying by the LGBT civil rights group Equality Project and one of the company's biggest shareholders.

The New York City Employees Retirement Fund filed a shareholders resolution with the Securities and Exchange Commission calling for the policy change. After the company agreed to the changes the resolution was withdrawn without needing to go to stock holders at the next Annual Meeting.

“The good news from Wendy’s proves once again that building coalitions around the Equality Principles is a strategy that works for shareholders and policy advocates alike, and deserves support by more institutions,” said Grant Lukenbill, managing director of the Equality Project.

1. Bwahahahahahaha!
My homophobe in-laws are really in trouble now - they almost got rid of their two Ford cars after the Focus on the Family boycott. Now the only fast food place they'll eat goes and does this.

What ever will they do?

2. I still won't eat there
Or at McDonalds, KFC, Hardee's or any other purveyor of the "all the calories you need for the day and more in one sitting" meals.

Even a bearish figure needs limits. :hi:

5. One more thing I now love about Wendy's.
I feel you guys re: fast food, but I've noticed that maybe one in ten times I go to Wendy's do I go, wow, this food is shitty/wrong/cold, when it's about half and half everywhere else.

And after I eat there I feel like I've eaten food and not, uh, weirdness. You know how sometimes you want dinner-food and not a snack? Most fast food feels like dinner food but satisfies like a snack--empty calories, I guess.

And whoever called spicy chicken--(drools) Yes. Must get spicy chicken. Hooray for spicy chicken from non-bigots. I bet now they will taste even more fabulous. : )

10. I wasn't buying their food, but maybe now I'll start...
...especially if it carries the added bonus of giving the fundie wack jobs a heart attack!

11. It's about damn time
I've been avoiding Wendy's for years (since they pulled their ads from Ellen). So this is welcome news, even if it wasn't through the actions of management.

13. I'm no great lover of fast food, but I do eat my fair share...
I'm on the road a lot at lunchtime- traveling from place to place for work. I never stop to think to make lunch the night before, so it's always grabbing whatever I can find along the route. I'm happier supporting places that I know have policies in place that support people like me. If in the course of travel, a Wendy's I shall see, lunch it shall be.
