Mary Cheney Considered Quitting 2004 Campaign Over Gay Marriage Issue
She says she considered quitting her role as campaign adviser over the issue of gay marriage, but Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter Mary Cheney tells ABC News "Primetime" anchor Diane Sawyer her sexuality has never created problems within her family.

Mary Cheney discussed the campaign, her feelings about President Bush, life with her partner of 14 years, and what it was like to come out as gay to her parents.

"I struggled with my decision to stay on the 2004 campaign," Cheney told "Primetime." Her personal challenge came when President Bush said the nation must defend the sanctity of marriage.

When Bush proclaimed it in the State of the Union, she refused to go. Mary Cheney, a senior campaign advisor, was finally taking her stand.

Beware the onslaught of articles about Mary Cheney now that she's in the process of shilling for her book. She's also going to be featured in the May issue of Vanity Fair and be making the rounds of the talk shows.

I think I'll leave my TV off for a while. :puke:

2. So is she gay or a cheerleader for her father and this admin's policies?
She can't have it both ways, though it appears she's trying to.:eyes:

5. Is this the new "I have my principles" Mary Cheney?
She must have learned what "taking responsibility" means from Bush. It means voicing some stupid platitude and putting nothing into action.

It's a little too late, honey. I am so sorry for all of my gay/lesbian friends that she couldn't speak truth to power when it really counted. Now is not the time! As they say in a song..."It's too late baby"....

11. If you read the article, you see that it's all about Mary,
:eyes:

Not once does she acknowledge how she could serve as a role model for other lesbians. She just says, "I felt like this. Oh, I have my own way. You just need to give the GOP time." :puke: :puke: :puke:

She obviously doesn't care about other gays and lesbians. So, it's not clear why any of US should care about HER.

12. Know what? I empathize with her.
I'm taking a good, hard look at how I feel about my own parents (well, parent, now that dad's gone), and trying to compare/contrast that to how she might feel.

There's always an expectation on any child of any parent that they are 'supposed' to love that parent. I've written here, many times, that I hate my mom for what she did, and in a very great many ways that's 100% true- but, at the same time.....

I won't ramble on about it here, but it's very hard to sever that relationship, even when one is as publicly mistreated as she is. She's Dick's family 'secret', just like I am with my mom and such. Never spoken, always known; usually impled, politely ignored.

I know exactly how she might feel.

It rips you apart. So, I empathize.

(I still think she should have quit the campaign ifshe felt she should, but in a way, I understand why she stayed. That doesn't make it right, but I do understand.)

13. And she didn't.
And she should just shut the fuck up about it. She made her choice and that's that. She's a fucking traitor to the GLBT community and fuck her and fuck her half assed explanation.

Mary Cheney is useless to me. And as we are approaching a vote in the Senate on a constitutional amendment that would permanently relegate us to second class citizens, we should never forget that Mary Cheney is tacitly going along with it.
