Secretive Gay GOP Operative Ups Anti-Hilary Campaign

(Washington) A Republican consultant who has run political campaigns for some of the most homophobic members of the GOP predicts Hilary Clinton will be the Democratic presidential nominee in 2008.

"Scoop Jackson and Hubert Humphrey would twirl in their graves to think that she is the symbol of their party, let alone its leading candidate," Arthur Finkelstein tells Connecticut's Jewish Ledger in a rare interview.

Nonetheless, Finkelstein, who rarely speaks to the media, said: "It's more than likely that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee; Hillary, who encompasses so much of what is today's Democratic Party. She reflects the anti-defense sentiment in the U.S. and captures the cultural left."

Finkelstein is credited with developing a line of attack against Democrats that vilified them as 'liberals', turning the word into a publicly viewed negative.

It comes from the name Vidkun Quisling, a Norwegian fascist who aided the Nazis when they invaded and occupied Norway during WW II. It has come to mean traitor, specifically one who collaborates with an invading force. That certainly describes Arthur Finkelstein, Mary Cheney and a great many of the Log Cabin Republicans.
