Help me find the thread where someone asked if DEM gays 'hated' Dean...
Edited on Tue May-16-06 01:51 AM by homaffectional
or just the 'Log Cabin' gays?

I responded to it by trying to alert everyone to the right wing slant of the Window Media chain publications, because the editor-in-chief, Chris Crain, is one of the aforementioned Log Cabin gays that the original poster asked about.

Another poster responded to what the truth about Window Media and Crain with --

"Give me a break."

I want to refer the skeptic to *this* week's blog editorial in Window Media's flagship publication, the Washington Blade, which was penned by none other than Crain himself about none other than Dean himself.

BTW, I wish people would actually post these threads in the appropriate forum, like maybe GLBT, so I could find them after more than 24-48 hours has gone by...

3. I'm poor...
don't you know that there's been a Bush in the White House for almost 6 years?? You think I have that kind of money lying around? What do you think I am? Some wealthy guy who has more money than he could ever spend thanks to the latest helping of magnanimous, $70 billion tax cuts his buddy Bush just pushed through?

4. Another comment on Chris Crain
I was wondering if someone might want to acknowledge this idiot. I think the attitude thus far has been 'ignore him and he'll go away'. But he hasn't... in fact he's branched out into other things -- like advocating for the release of those who have been put away for knowingly infecting others with HIV and trying to get his readership to oppose transgender inclusive versions of federal hate crimes legislation such as LLEEA and ENDA.

Oh, yeah, my point about acknowledging him was in the efforts to begin a nationwide boycott of his chain and the advertisers of those papers that have a major competitor in the same market (NYC, DC, South Florida), not just to kvetch and do nothing beyond that. Any takers?

And now, for your reading pleasure...

Chris Crain is not just a 'gay Rethuglican operative'. The whole point is that this 'gay Rethuglican operative' runs THE LARGEST GAY NEWSPAPER CHAIN IN THE COUNTRY. Do you know how many people he has the power not only to reach, but influence? More than just 'a few' that you shrug off as those that are 'always' there. The Window Media chain reaches at least hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS of gay people. You probably assume that everyone will reject his message right away, instinctively. Not a good assumption to be making. That's why after 4 years of seeing how anti-gay the Bush administration was, the percent of gay people that voted for Bush went down a whopping 2 percent from 25% in 2000 to 23% in 2004.

You can chalk that one mainly up to Chris Crain, and maybe the media empire he sits on top of. But only if you wanted to be honest, and were able to recognize Crain as more than just another 'gay Rethuglican operative' that's just 'against Democrats'.

5. One more word on Crain; still waiting on responses...
If we don't do something about this right wing echo chamber, don't be surprised if 22 or 23% of gays vote for Republicans again in 2006, especially if that's enough to put people like Olympia Snowe, Mike DeWine and Lincoln Chafee over the top by 100 or so votes over their Democratic challengers.

Ignore Crain at your peril, DUers...

>I mean yes. He has the paper. So that makes him more but
>don't Gays, Lesbians, Bi & Transexuals know he's a Rethug. So
>doesn't that make it sort of how black folks are when we see
>JC Watts on CNN as a kool-aid fuckwad who you should take with
>a grain of salt.
Unfortunately, one black person that JC Watts reaches that a white Republican couldn't reach is one black person too many. That's the point I'm trying to get across. Crain is DANGEROUS and that's why it's not enough to take him with a 'grain of salt'. We must BOYCOTT the Window Media publications!

>I mean if the GBLT community know he's a Rethug then he only
>really has the power of let's say Rush. People who want to
>believe him already do and those who don't never will.
Um... that's where you're wrong, and that's why this assumption is SO dangerous. Rush reached a lot of people until they realized how much of a hypocrite he was. There are those who have not yet learned how much of a hypocrite Crain is. How much do you know about him (Crain)? Do you know that he was gay-bashed in AMSTERDAM of all places, and then advocated for REMOVING transgender people from hate crimes legislation currently pending in Congress?
BTW, the GLBT community don't know that he's a Rethug. Many mainly think he's just an 'independent voice'. Did you know that? Or didn't you read the part in the anti-Dean editorial where he wrote that he conceded that gay rights would have a better chance if Democrats controlled Congress, but............
that's how he pulls his spin. Acknowledging Democrats strengths quietly, and then waxing poetic about how we shouldn't just be 'blind followers' of Democrats or the Democratic Party, while had advocates for HRC to endorse Republicans like Arlen Specter who are worse than their Democratic opponents, and then chastising them when they refuse to do so.

>I don't know. I refuse to think that this prick can change
>the tide of how the entire GBLT community feels about
>Democrats.
Um... what part of 23% don't you understand? I got news for you about "changing the tide of how 'the entire GLBT community' feels about Democrats" He already has... 77% of the GLBT community that identifies themselves as openly gay voters is nowhere near enough. And then you have to factor those gays in the closet that are either really self-loathing or really stupid or perhaps REALLY rich.
Here's one example of the very latter

>Hell Republicans have been trying to do that to blacks for
>years. Luckilly we are holding strong. Even when they try
>and bring Jesus into the mix.
>
>X

Holding strong is not enough. We need to be nearly universally united, not just minorities amongst themselves, but different minorities TOGETHER. Forget about dividing blacks from other blacks and dividing gays from other gays (in which they've had their share of success in and of itself, I can assure you). They can divide gays and blacks from each other, which helped him get enough votes to rig Ohio, whereas otherwise it would have been a Kerry landslide and he wouldn't have been able to rig it.

And I've got some more news for you... 'bringing Jesus into the mix' is what got 2 percent more blacks to vote for Bush in 2004 than did in 2000... 2 percent that many of whom, no doubt regretted it when Katrina hit. But you know what his point was by 'bringing Jesus into the mix'? Dividing blacks and gays from each other, when they should be working together. And someone like Crain can't hurt that effort much. After the election he did a profile in which he basically gave gay idiots who voted for Bush an opportunity to justify their votes, while savoring their 'victory'.

Still ready to dismiss Crain so easily? Or do you maybe want to help me spread the word about my proposed boycott now?
