Demonstrators Clash At De. Marine's Funeral (Phelps' cult gets pelted!)

Police were seen making several arrests and the state police helicopter had to be called into disperse the crowd after a clash Sunday in Seaford between a handful of anti-gay Kansas church members and hundreds of demonstrators supporting the American military.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church came to Seaford’s Gateway Park to demonstrate before the funeral for Marine Corporal Cory Palmer, who died earlier this month from injuries suffered in Iraq. The group believes God is punishing America for being too tolerant of homosexuals by killing soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But they were far outnumbered by troop-supporting demonstrators. Some broke through police barricades, hurling insults and chicken eggs onto the anti-homosexual demonstrators.

As a Seaford volunteer fire company van came to pick the Kansas based group up, eggs and bottles were thrown at the fleeing group and then the crowd broke the police lines again, shattering the windows in the van.

Awwwww ... the poor Phelpses. Too bad things like this don't happen more often when they show up preachng hate. The next time they show up in Kansas City I think I'll make a special trip to the dog park and pick up a few "gifts" to toss to them. Eggs are expensive, but dog shit is free ... and delivers a message much more in tune with with the Phelps cult's ideology.

I'm never happy when someone dies, but Fred Phelps would definitely be the exception to the rule. (Well, maybe Jesse Helms too...) Can you imagine the protest that would be at that man's funeral? It will be a gay ol' time! Leather Men, Dykes on Bikes, and Drag Queens, oh my!

Think of all the funerals he has ruined, gay people and soldiers alike. It's only fitting that there should be a massive protest at his funeral.

free speech. But, that was the chance the the 'Phelpsisees' took by showing up at so many funerals and 'celebrating' the deaths of so many soldiers. Emotions are already very high. His behavior was like throwing gasoline on a flame.

I have never seen anything quite so disturbing from a group of individuals in this country. If it was just one, or maybe even two you could say "Ah, they're just typical loonies with nothing better to do.", but it's not. They bring a whole group of loonies to these funreals and do this.

may very well end up wishing they had not done it. As much as I abhor violent responses these people have been asking for it but there is the problem. They have cost my city a LOT of money, close to $500,000.00 over the years. (this is a figure I have been told by people who have access to the information, I can't back it up) I hope they were scared. I hope they have the decency to not sue the people but that is probably asking way too much of these freaks.
