Ex-gay Watch reader Jim Burroway recently gave $10 to the American Family Assoc. for a copy of the video "It's Not Gay" which is still being sold long after Michael Johnson was discredited. Wayne Besen coined the term "exgay for pay" which describes how virtually every publicly visible person proclaiming to be healed makes their livelihood off it.

To be cured in the strict sense of the word would be to become heterosexual. But a majority can't, and as long as the "ex-gay" doesn't have sex with another man, even if they never have sex with a woman, they are deemed cured.

Ex-gays are paid. Why do they use the terms "healed" or "cured"? This would imply that being gay is a disease. There is no lack of ease in being gay, it, in and of itself, doesn't cause pain or suffering... it just happens. It's people's freaky mindset, and unhealthy interest in your personal sex life that causes the problem.

It has always struck me as odd how zealous self-proclaimed "ex-gays" are about being ex-gay. I believe there are people who believe they can (or need to) reject some aspect of their sexuality for their own sanity and happiness, but that doesn't always result in making them more sane or more happy, and it's certainly not a plan for anyone else.

They're almost always coupled with some judgemental religious nuttiness - but you know, if you don't think of yourself as completely polar "gay" or "straight" then why would anyone need to loudly proclaim that they've been saved from half of their sexuality by choosing one or the other? Just choose it and move on.

5. I'm starting an ex-hetero group.

We're going to go around and get parents to bring their perverted little hetero brats to our meetings and show them that there is another way, for a nominal fee of course.

I think if I were going to "X Factor" or "Candid Camera" one of these groups, I'd rent the conference room next to theirs at the hotel and put up misleading signs, make sure the cameras were rolling.
