I work for the greatest company ever!
I just got an email that as of June 1st, the company will provide health insurance to same sex couples in a committed relationship. I think this is awesome and a huge step forward. I wish more companies would do this.

:bounce:

3. Congrats! This gives me hope that the right wing idiocy won't
permeate all of corporate america.

4. Congrats, Midlo!
:toast: That's great! :) The college that I worked for prior to my current job had a very progressive policy for same-sex couples, and it even went as far as offering tuition remission benefits that most schools reserved for "husbands, wives, and children." :D Many of our faculty were in committed same-sex relationships, and our administration recognized the importance early on. The college treated those couples exactly the same way it treated hetero couples in every way.

I'm glad your company is so inclusive! :D

8. Let them know you appreciate this
Find out who the higher-ups are that made this happen, and send a really nice letter. Often, "management" doesn't ever know it's done anything good - all they get is complaints. '

It is really a great thing for your company to have done this! Look at all the others who are cutting healthcare altogether - doesn't even matter who your partner is!

9. Obviously they want to attract and educated and open group of employees.
That's what I'd do if I was ceo.

10. that's awesome
a company I used to work for did that. they called it 'domestic partner' benefits and a lot of straight people used it as well. One time this bitty I worked with tried to throw it in my face that gay people there wanted 'special privileges' because of that insurance and I told her about a straight co-worker had it for him and his girlfriend. I was so funny to watch her mouth drop open and all the steam leak out of her argument. A very fond memory.

12. My place just re-wrote their EEO and non-discrimination
policies to include sexual orientation. Still don't offer benefits, but it can't be far behind.
How exactly can you say you will not discriminate in all areas of employment (including benefits) based on marital status and sexual orientation, and then not offer benefits??? Time will tell. Open enrollment for next year is in November.
