Decadence Days 2006-a return to New Orleans.......
Last night a dear straight friend called to say he and his wife have booked two rooms at a great little hotel in the French Quarter for Labor Day weekend and did we want one of them? He had no idea, but that coincides with Southern Decadence Days (my pick for gay party of the year) so we said "Hell, yes!".

My first trip to NO since Katrina and already I'm so excited I can't sleep!

2. I'm really excited....My guy and I have been several times...I can't wait!
We had the worst fight of our 17 year relationship during a Decadence Day weekend and I still remember how much fun "making up" was!

3. I am sure it will be more "tame" than in the past...
...but...there is fun to be had! Besides, NOLA is ready for the tourists...we have great food, great fun, and great people!

4. I'm really glad to hear the city is ready for tourists again....I love NO
but I was worried that it was too soon to come back. Glad to hear it isn't!

As to it being "tamer" this year, I have no doubt I'll experience sensory overload from the near-naked hunks on every corner. Even a mild "Decadence" will blow this small town Mississippi boy away (though 52 is bit old to call oneself a "boy").

The people of New Orleans and their peculiar attitude, the ambiance of the most romantic city in America, and the unbelieveably mind-blowing food make New Orleans my absolutely favorite destination.
