I saw someone with this on tonight (I think identical), and I was like, what the hell???....the friggen stars and bars?????????????????

Are you kidding me?

You fight and fight for equal rights for gays and lesbian people, yet you wear a shirt that is totally inflammatory toward another minority group?? :wtf:

How about an Adolph Hitler rainbow flag t-shirt dude?

Jesus, what the hell is going on with the world? It's just too much.

12. I was told it was the Gay Rebel flag
And it is an intentional play on the stars and bars to piss off the southern fried bigots. I found it funny and effective in that role.

The knee jerk PC types who are wringing their hands over this need to get some oxygen and realize the power of satire.

14. LOL!!! Yea.....I think even someone as stupid as a freeper can
deduce it's supposed to be the "gay rebel flag!"

I mean + ='s GAY REBEL FLAG (NO SHIT SHERLOCK)

I'm giving you a hard time!!!!! :) :bounce:

I just didn't know that the shirt was produced/manufactured with the intent to piss off redneck homophobes. Pretty funny.

But you have to cut me some slack dude.........this shirt is something the idiotic Log Cabin (gay) Republicans would wear.....and they would wear it not as a joke, but to (on the other hand) showcase their love for the stars and bars -- a symbol the KKK has so proudly adopted as part of its mission of hate.

So, thanks for the information.

****But by the way. I'm not sure if you're gay, but it's pretty easy (and understandable for that matter) to have knee jerk reactions in today's environment of anti-gay bigotry. Just sayin' :)

2. you think only straight wasp males get to be bigots?
if being oppressed kept people from oppressing others, oppresion would have been wiped out globally about 2500 years ago.

3. An African American lesbian friend of mine has a licence plate
similar to that one, only it also has the black national flag. She had it for the simple reason that she liked the idea of making people think. Mixing those symbols caused people to nearly freak out at first but then have to think about what statement it made. I wouldn't have such a plate on my car but it fit her. As to the shirt, maybe it is trying to make a statement about being gay and Southern.

7. And maybe he is just a bigot. I have an old friend who is racist, hates
most women, anti choice, doesn't think gays should marry, a big time republican.... and he is gay. (I say he is an old friend because I can't stand him after I got to know all those things about him.)

Pissing off the Bigots of the American Confederacy, maybe???

Or maybe, the poor gay person was also blind, and some snarky asshole gave them the wrong shirt on purpose...????

10. That's enough to make a person's nostrils flare and upper lip curl.
There must be some reasonable argument about 'heritage' and identity to explain that shirt. :sarcasm:

16. Unfortunately...
...even in our community we have idiots who believe in white supremacy.

Fucking pisses me to no end. White supremacy that is. I was at work today, and had someone in the store I was working at ask me to watch a person. I looked at the person (African) then looked at the worker and asked what the problem was. Basically they said it was because of skin colour, I looked at this worker and said; "my job is store detective, not racial profiler" and walked off.

20. I came up with a similar design and I wore it for a week in South Carolina
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 12:58 AM by IanDB1
I may be misguided, but I'll tell you why I designed it and why I wore it.

Many people-- including some here on DU-- claim that the Confederate Flag, for them, is a symbol of "Southern Pride and Heritage" and not one of racism and bigotry.

So, to put that to the test, I came up with this design:

A few people actually bought that design from my CafePress store:
http://www.cafepress.com/southdiversity

I wore that design on a hat for an entire week around North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It didn't get so much as a second glance.

I've worn other controversial designs that have gotten everything from compliments to questions to disgusted glances. Try wearing the Landover Baptist "Unsaved" hat at the local County Fair.

For a week, "Celebrate Southern Diversity" sat on my head, apparently invisible and un-noticed.

Now, since some people-- three other people, actually-- bought that design from my CafePress shop, I guess some actually consider this a valid expression of "Pride Not Prejudice."

Notice my design speaks specifically in words to explain its meaning- "Pride not Prejuduce. Celebrate Southern Diversity." To me, that means ALL diversity-- all colors-- gay and straight.

As for me, personally, when I think of The Rebel Flag, I think of... well, of The Rebellion.

Which is why my CafePress store also sells THIS design:

http://www.cafepress.com/southdiversity

I interpret that design not as General Sherman pissing all over The South, but as General Sherman pissing all over The Rebellion and the racist crap that The Rebellion stood for.

I did NOT wear that SECOND logo during my trip.

I did, however, put a DU Bumper Sticker on my rental car.

You know what I love about The South?

You can buy porn, beer fireworks and gasoline every ten feet-- often all in the same building.

And they have Sonic Drive-in Restaurants.

:scared: I wouldn't know whether to come out to that person or run from them. It's like putting a swastika over a Star of David. I don't think they two work together. My computer even said, "Does not compute. Please try reloading that picture again."
