George Michael to sue
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/5222652.stm

He does plan to sue photographers for harassment, however, and denied calling off a civil ceremony with his partner.

Michael, 43, told BBC News 24: "I'm suing the individual involved who I have never, ever seen, let alone wanted to have any kind of sexual encounter with, and I'm currently investigating suing the secondary sources of libel."

*and*

He went on: "A very large part of the male population, gay or straight, totally understands the idea of anonymous and no-strings sex.

Michael and Goss recently marked their 10th anniversary as a couple
"The fact that I choose to do that on a warm night in the best cruising ground in London - which happens to be about half a mile from my home - I don't think would be that shocking to that many gay people," he said.

Good on 'im. These guys went too far; not surprisingly, the tabloid in question was a Murdoch owned paper. It's interesting to me he's come out so strongly defending cruising. That's unique, isn't it?

1. Sorry, George
I love your music, but I would never celebrate my anniversary at a cruising ground, nor do I understand the appeal of anonymous no-strings sex.

4. men in general
men in general ARE more driven to be promiscuous than women

that's not hard to recognize

and of course, society reinforces this (although i certainly think there are genetic reasons why men are natural more promiscuous as well)

5. I'm really glad people are weighing in on this
because I thought his comments were so provocative and would make for an interesting discussion.

Of course the sex industry is held afloat by mostly men seeking mostly female prostitutes but heterosexuals like to hold their non-traditional sexual escapades underground for some reason. (So as not to scare the children perhaps? maybe it's a way of dealing with the intergration of sexual desire and child-raising, which don't seem compatible sometimes). I think that they sometimes see homosexuality in that realm, as part of their own 'deviance paradigm' culturally, and that is why it's taken so long for GBLT people to get full rights under the law because before we were relegated into that category that heterosexuals keep secret; the whole thing is so very victorian. Maybe culture has resisted us because giving us full rights under the law legitimized parts of their sexual psyche that they normally keep repressed and aren't willing to deal with. Needless to say, I resent being projected upon like this...no, I am not an actual being, I'm instead a disowned part of you. Kind of like how men have seen women in culture for so many thousands of years, as repositories of negative and disowned traits rather than actual separate beings that are just different, but equal.

While I know George Michael's comments will offend alot of people, I do think there is some truth to them and I have to say that I am a little bit awed by his lack of guile.
