David Letterman did something very cool during Monday's show -- |
|
He acknowledged that his executive producer Barbara Gaines and "her partner" are the proud parents of a "brand new baby boy."
"So congratulations to your family..." he went on to say, and Barbara appeared to be so, so happy to hear that.
Dave has made some jokes in the past about gays, particularly around the time that Brokeback Mountain came out, that really had me questioning whether he was a little bit homophobic.
In fact, I'd posted concerns about it.
However, I have completely discounted the notion.
It is clear by his constant and hilarious ripping of Bush and Cheney and all of the other horrible people in the administration that he is not a wingnut.
His joking about gay and lesbian people is just that.....joking.
Letterman brings so much laughter and joy into my life.....I've been watching him faithfully since I've pretty much been a kid.
He is really a comic treasure.
(You all can take Leno if you want him!!!)
I'll take Dave! :loveya:

1. Plus, he stays on Bush nightly. |
|
He always has something funny to say about Bush and his latest screwup. It's hilarious.

play an unedited clip of Bush and say something about it. It's great. I wonder why more DU'ers don't watch or mention Letterman. I mean he has great presidential quotes up and shows FDR (The only thing we have to fear...,) then JFK(Ask not what your country can do for you...,) then Bush stuttering saying something stupid.
I gotta start school back in a week on day shift, but if I was still going in the evenings, I'd be on DU repeating what he said or did on the show as often as possible. A Letterman fan club would be a kickass group or forum to have on DU just to highlight the funny stuff he says on the show. He does it almost every night, if not, every night.

if you click on "We'll kill you," he says "If you don't like what we tell you to believe in, we'll kill you."
Damn, that's fucked up.

"Inappropriate Smiling by President Bush." All he would show is Bush giving a speech on something very serious, such as the casualty count in Iraq, then bursting into a face-splitting grin. Cree-py!

6. I've been a Letterman fan since his very first late-night show in 1982 |
|
...and last night he did a beautiful thing, didn't he?
K&R for Dave - one of the nicest people on TV (despite what Cher said ;)).
FYI - For those who remember the early days of Late Night w/ DL on NBC, Barbara was the woman yelling from behind the set...:)

downloading it since you posted the link. I wish I had a foot tapping smiley to show that I have dialup and I'm waiting, because that's what you spend time doing with dialup; waiting. Lalallala, waiting. :P
Thanks for the link. I am downloading it now. I just got to the part where she said she had thought he was an asshole. They booed her, LOL.

by Tom Snyder and for a time his show was followed by Jon Stewart.
Toast on a stick.
He also had an afternoon show for a while.
I have always loved Dave.

Life is like that.... complicated.
I'm curious: "her partner" is a bit obscure. Did the *couple* appear on screen, or only Barbara?

28. I've had my hunch that he may well be |
|
gay himself. I mean he is never associated with any women at all in public. What reason would he have to hide his heterosexuality at all? He got that kid somehow, but I never really heard anything about a steady girlfriend or wife at all.
I don't think he is homophobic at all. He doesn't seem to make anti-gay jokes, just gay jokes sometimes. You know what I mean?

Of course, you can be gay and be in the same sort of situation.
But, he just seems very private (and straight) from everything I've read about him.

I wouldn't put it past him to be at least bisexual. He wild. Did you see Chimpy stuttering tonight and basically saying nothing on the Great Presidential Moments piece?
Letterman said the last time a president humped a hog, he got impeached when referring to Chimpy posing on a Harley too. Hilarious.
Whoopi sure has calmed down. I remember when she got into boat loads of trouble for saying something about the current regime.
