How to fight?
I believe that GLBTs should take a page out of the civil rights movement and do more than friendly protest. Okay, you see your stereotypical gay men and lesbians plastered all over television. There is still the absence of one GLBT leader who can stand up and make the case ask the beloved MLK Jr. I've always believed that while that helped, it was the Black Panthers who did more to scare the shit out of idiots. Why can't GLBT groups start getting more aggressive about it. If someone were taking away my rights, I'd want to make sure that every idiot who thought I was a piece of shit (as most Republifucks think) were scared out of their wits, thinking you might "convert" their children. When will GLBT groups start doing this? Sitting idly, throwing up a few signs here and there, and wearing a rainbow bracelet aren't doing enough.

1. Basically, it is too easy for us to "blend in"
Blacks in this country had no choice but to organize and find strong, outspoken leaders. You might have noticed that there are no equivalents to MLK Jr. or the Black Panthers among the Irish, Jews, Catholics or other minority groups that have been oppressed in the United States.

2. Conservatives find the idea of nonpassive, angry liberals to be disturbing
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 10:58 AM by IanDB1
It unsettles them to think that gay people, progressives and liberals might actually be willing to defend themselves with force.

That's why they got so worked-up when Al Franken posted a staged video of himself pretending to beat-up a conservative that gave his book a bad review on Amazon.com

I'm not saying that people should actually go out and use violence.

I'm just saying that you need to let the Christo-fascists know that you are willing and able to use violence if necessary-- and that you're angry.

4. pink pistols
Nice website. I've always wanted to see groups marching outside churches with guns on Sunday mornings. That would make people afraid to leave their homes. Perhaps that's just a dream of mine.

6. I support the Pink Pistols
and could never seem them doing what you suggest. They tend to piss off the gay establishment more than anything else, which is a good thing IMO.

5. We could learn from the Hispanic community...
...their organized response/massive protests/work slow-downs to the immigration debacle were impressive. Much of their organization came through the concerted efforts of Spanish-speaking radio and TV stations. GLBT haven't the concentration of populus nor the network of media to effect the same kind of galvanized movement. Not too many years ago, our community looked to Ellen and Melissa as possible Messiahs but both have been despicably silent throughout this whole Bush-led assault on gay rights. Rosie has been the only gay celenbrity/notable to launch a loud and public counter-attack against Bush.

8. I've been thinking that for a while now too.
There is no reason on this planet we can't start an organization based on the idea of learning self defense and empower ourselves to fight back. We sure as hell shouldn't lie down and take beating after beating and rape after rape like we have in the past. It would be better to at least start thinking of our safety and organize on a worldwide basis.
