Cheryl Jacques -- how can we continue to support her?
Check out THIS dynamite statement, it's SO FRIGGIN' TRUE.

http://www.advocate.com/new_news.asp?id=14749&sd=01/08/05-01/10/05

The interview was the first time that Jacques had spoken publicly in five weeks. She predicted that opponents of same-sex marriage would continue to use the issue to portray supporters as out of the mainstream, even if gays stop pushing for marriage rights. "If we all take a vow of silence and never mention gay marriage again, do you really think George Bush is not going to raise the Federal Marriage Amendment again?" she told the Globe. "They're going to use that issue whether we vow never to touch it or not. It's...silly...to believe that somehow our enemies, those who support discrimination, are going to play by the rules and not raise the issue if we don't."

2. Like some others have said, we haven't heard the last of Cheryl Jacques.
And if she's a part of a new GLBT organization, then I'm on board. I have completely severed all financial ties with the HRC. The HRC is worthless. Cheryl Jacques is exactly right in the Advocate interview. It's nonsense to think that we can roll over and get civil unions from the opponents of same-sex marriage if we ourselves drop the fight over gay marriage. It's absurd and naive to even think such a thing. The anti-gay Federal Marriage Amendment is a perfect tool for Bush to use to keep the American Taliban in line. Of course the FMA will be re-introduced again.

We have to continue to fight for same-sex marriage...the same right that we deserve. And Cheryl Jacques is a eloquent, forceful fighter.

4. She rocks
And she's worth about 1,000 Hilary Rosens.

I was a fan of hers to back when she was a state senator in Massachusetts. Got to watch her speak to the GBBC (gay and lesbian chamber of commerce in Boston) and knew she had quite a future ahead of her. :)

3. She started a personal website
I don't know if this has been posted already (I've not seen it, but I could have missed it).

http://www.cheryljacques.org/

You should probably bookmark that site. Hopefully she will keep it updated with plans for the future.
