I finally heard this
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 07:30 PM by dsc
I have been in high schools for over a decade and a half between attending and working at them. I have never heard a principal say to the student body that harassing of LGBT students won't be allowed. Today, at my current school's opening assembly I did hear this. They did use the preference word, but still, it was so cool to hear this. To think that in my lifetime this district went from being segregated by race to telling students you can't hassle gay students simply astounding.

I always do my thing about name calling etc at the start of the year and of course include that they can't call each other fag and the like. In the past I always had to wonder if I would be backed up in it if push came to shove. Not now. It also lets students know they don't have to take that crap anymore.

Jesse Helms must be rolling in his pregrave. It couldn't have happened soon enough for me.

4. Ooooooo, I Know what you mean by that.
I used to teach high school.

And I remember being VERY angry in high school myself. Angred by the cliques, and hypocrisy and favoritisms.

7. Bravo!
In an age and time when it's becoming dangerous for a school official to denounce mistreatment of GLBT students, I'm glad your principal had the cajones to stand firm. :applause:
