Memorial For Principal Fails To Address Shooter's Assertion Of Homophobia

Weston Schools principal John Klang was remembered at a memorial service Wednesday as a caring man who spent more time in the hallways with students than in his office.

Klang died a week ago after being shot three times by 15 year old Eric Hainstock who later told police he was angry over constant homophobic bullying that the school failed to do anything about. (story)

The school gymnasium was packed with students, parents and officials for the memorial. Gov. Jim Doyle, joined by his wife and other state and federal politicians, also attended.

"We never knew a real-life hero until now," Weston School Board President Dave Wermund said in his eulogy.

1. Well, if it's a memorial for the principal, you probably wouldn't mention

the complaints of the guy who killed him, regardless of how legitimate those complaints are. Hell, you generally don't mention a murderer at his victim's memorial for any reason.

That does need to be addressed -- at another time.
