I want to take this time to apologize on behaf of some ppl in my State.
I just saw a news item on my local news about a small town near me here in NC that decided tonight to vote on a definition of marriage (Thomasville NC). The exact wording in the report was
"a resolution calling for North Carolina state legislators to let the voters decide on the definition of marriage."
I know it passed 5 to 1.
Not that it really matters in the long run, because I sincerely believe it will not get very far, (I really hope!!) but I just wanted to say:

Sorry about the bigots. I'll do what I can to counter them.

It was just so dissapointing.....sigh.

12. It's not that bad...
I grew up here, and it's kind of that don't-make-a-big-fuss-and-we'll-pretend-not-to-notice things.
Believe me, the southern thing is quite pronounced under the surface--as long as you are from the area, they don't seem to "mind" as much. It can be very interesting to watch...not saying that it's good, but it sure is a facinating psychological study.
Eh, that's another discussion. Thanks for the support.

11. I'm an ex-stripper (close to 4 years in the loony bin!)
and ex-dominatrix. I was a lesbian stripper in the bible belt (and the NE post-industrial belt) Fun times! (Actually, not usually.)

13. By loony bin, I meant the club BTW. Not an actual loony bin.
(though remarkably similar)

2. It's not your fault. Thanks for your support, though.
Some of us live in these fucked up towns too. Like, for example, I live in NY State and we don't have gay marriage either.

8. I do believe that
my loving man and I are going to join the ranks of the "we won't get married until everyone can".

10. I really appreciate the sentiment. It means a lot to me.
It means a lot to me because it shows me that some straight people understand so well that "marriage" is a discriminatory practice that they are joining our ranks and waiting with us. It is a hard decision, I think. To go without tax breaks, financial security, health insurance. I appreciate the sentiment, I really do.

While I understand that not all straight people can wait to get married (I, for example, buy clothes made with slave labor-- until there is a movement against sweatshops I can't exactly go naked or wear sweatpants made by American Apparel to work) I opt out of going to straight weddings at the moment. It is too uncomfortable and lonely.

3. Is that a furniture making town? Surprised they haven't sawn off their
limbs or smashed all their thumbs with that collective intellect....

7. They'll get there..
it's just too bad the local news had such a slow day this was even given any attention, since I believe that's exactly what it was designed for.
Once more into the fray..

4. You can't help what people do.
But it was nice of you to take the initative to apologize on behalf of your state, especially for their idiocy.

5. Don't feel too bad
All of us in every state have some apologizing to do for not doing more.
