Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 02:20 PM by lionesspriyanka
and the ones who continue to fight so that we dont have to be second class citizens...

thats all i wanted to say really. though things are not perfect by any means we have achieved some level of rights..and for all of those who have sacrificed for it..and for all those who still do...thank-you..

i have been witnessing a lot of out right bigotry and i feel its time for me to thank my community for its work..and maybe take a moment to be grateful to the generation who made it possible for us to now work towards gay marriage...

and regardless of what other people say...congratulations to us for our small victory in NJ!

if we lost elections for this...its not our fault..its the fault of those people who are bigots

i also want to thank non-lgbt folk who stand by us and support us.

Love,

Lioness...

2. If gays can pay taxes
then they can get married and serve openly in the military. There is nothing difficult about this proposal to this constitution loving veteran. The only reason we have such discussion is because of the hatefilled hearts of those who call themselves "christian." This is the land of the free, it is not the land of focus on the family.

4. I join you in giving thanks to everyone one our side
And I take a small bow for my small part. :)

We will keep fighting. Swimboy's right, it is a marathon. But we're not going anywhere but forward.

6. And we want to thank you also!
It's really true, "Love can build a bridge".

Id gladly walk across the desert
With no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite
Of bread I had to eat
I would swim out to save you
In your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinkin
Let me show you what love means

(chorus)

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Dont you think its time?
Dont you think its time?

I would whisper love so loudly
Every heart could understand
That love and only love
Can join the tribes of man
I would give my hearts desire
So that you might see
The first step is to realize
That it all begins with you and me

(repeat chorus)

When we stand together
Its our finest hour
We can do anything, anything
Keep believin in the power

(repeat chorus)

Love and only love
Love and only love

I was there a lot in SF in the 60's and 70's;
when gays were thrown off the dais at the big anti war rally in GG Park,
at the first Gay in at GG Park that was raided, at the States Line picket for Gayle Whittington( I believe)At Macy's, at the "purple hand riot" at the SF Examiner, and at the Rolling Stone "takeover", you won't have heard of these unless you were there, or had access to the gay press at the time, as there was a complete blackout. The cops were pigs, BTW. I am a little long of tooth thse days, and besides you can't take your meds to jail. I am confident you guys can carry our standard to victory.

9. LGBTs of today are the demonized pinko commies of yesterday . . .
.

LGBTs of today are the demonized "pinko, commies" of yesterday . . . simple really.

The rightwingnuts of yesterday who rose to power shouting "commie, pinko, commie" in the 1950s have arisen to power today shouting "gays, guns, and God!" Same church different aisle of ignorance.

Senator Joe McCarthy rode in on that 1950s demonized rightwingnut horse, and George W. Bush and Company rode in on the "gays" demonized rightwingnut horse. No difference. Same irrational and ignorant mentality. A politician and his gang riding to power off the backs of others. The "others" of course being a minority. Always a minority.

Who wouldn't stand up and say "no more, you bastards, no more!" It took awhile in McCarthy's era as it will this time around. But the slippery slope will be slick and fast when to the embarrassment of our country it learns of, and accepts, its hurtful hatred and ignorance.

All that being said, it is hoped that most, if not all, the damage to our country -- including the demonization of LGBTs -- can be undone as quickly as feasible.
