What a week for us-Doogie Hauser is gay and unfortunately,
so is Ted Haggard. Oh well.

Neil Patrick Harris came out and Haggard was forced out.

1. But Doogie didn't buy meth
Honestly, did anyone not know Neil Patrick Harris was gay? I'm hetero and I knew he was gay 15 years ago.

8. It's been kind of like Rosie O`Donnell
Everyone knew, but no one was making an issue about it. Someone starts to make an issue of it, person makes a statement to the effect of, "Yeah, I am. So what?" and it becomes a major news story. :eyes:

7. I knew it when I saw him eating at 18th and 8th.
That restaurant was downright rude to straight people.

I am glad that he is out and a good guy, it always helps the cause.

15. I didn't know either, but when I told my partner....
he said, "It's about time - I've thought that fro a long time. I guess my radar wasn't working on this one. I'm usually pretty good at this (like I am waiting for Tom Cruise to get the cojones to do it), but not about this one.

5. Could it be that there are good guys and bad guys everywhere?

Despite race, creed, or orientation? Huh.

6. Neil Patrick Harris is...
cuter (too cute IMHO, I prefer my men a bit more rugged) and a better actor than Haggard as well.

11. I don't get the "unfortunately" aspect, to be honest
Orientation isn't something anyone can CONTROL. It is what it is. And what it is, is a fact of life.

Ted Bundy was a heterosexual, as was Scott Peterson, near as I know, but I don't think those two crazed killers "represent" heterosexuality.

What Haggard was, was a HYPOCRITE. And a LIAR.

That's the "unfortunate" part of his sorry story. Maybe one day he'll figure out that the truth WILL set him free.

18. Oh, I mistook your intention, then. I thought you were saying that it was
unfortunate that he was gay because he was a poor representative of "gayness." Ya can't have every gay person be a paragon, anymore than all heterosexual people are paragons, or any ethnic/political/national/social group, no matter what way you slice it.

He simply proves, once more, that you can find jerks EVERYWHERE.

He's an shitheel, and he happens to be gay. He's a hypocrite and a liar as well, and his orientation happens to be the thing he lies about and obfuscates. Oh, and his drug use...he bullshits about that too! If he likes a bit too much tequila, maybe now's the time for him to pipe up about that...may as well go for an evangelical trifecta now, rather than having to go back to the well later!

If, in an alternate world, there were no little antigay passages in the Bible for the fundies to lean on, and in fact, gayness was celebrated amongst evangelicals, he'd be gay, out, didactic, mean, scolding, and being hypocritical and lying about something else, I'll bet. His mantra: Do as I say, not as I do! He strikes me as one of those "The rules don't apply to ME" types....

Neil Patrick Harris: I'm Gay

HarrisLess than two weeks after a columnist at Canada.com suggested that actor Neil Patrick Harris (still familiarly known to many as Doogie Howser, MD), 33, had offered his "longtime sweetheart" David Burtka a role on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Harris has come out of the closet.

Canada.com's claim that Harris was involved with a man inspired an alleged denial from Harris' publicist that was published without attribution by ContactMusic.com. They quoted a Harris publicist as saying, "He's not of that persuasion."

Harris was apparently as displeased by the reported statement as many others were. In a statement to People magazine, Harris appeared keen on quashing the reports that he had denied it.

Said Harris: "The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships. So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."

19. Where did I say that it bothered me? I was asking a question
to which I really wanted to know the answer. I'm curious why mostly because there has been an uproar about outing gay Repubs lately. So I'm just trying to understand if there is a reason for it, since there's no hypocrisy behing his being gay so for me I don't see any reason for it. I see now what forum it's in, perhaps it is commonly discussed here who is and who isn't gay? I'm just trying to sort out the feelings about when it's okay to comment on someone being outed and when it's not.

mentioned on the GLBT board?

22. That's what I'm asking...
I thought I explained it in my last post. I'm really just asking... I navigated to the OP from the "Latest" page and like I said, with all the bruhaha about the outing of political gays I really was just curious about it since for me it's no big deal for him to be gay. I'm not trying to pick a fight, no need to get defensive.

23. I sincerely don't get the question.
He's a public figure who just came out.

Coming out is a gay issue.

This is a gay board.

I don't understand the question.
