Victory! Blogging the Constitutional Convention

photo: Marilyn Humphries

6:04 p.m.

6:04 p.m. A huge, noisy celebratory rally is taking place in Nurses Hall. MassEquality campaign director Marc Solomon is introducing lawmakers who supported marriage equality to the crowd.

5:42 p.m.

Lawmakers voted to recess the ConCon until 2 p.m. Jan. 2, 2007 by a 109 to 87 vote, which is the last day of the legislative session. Technically, lawmakers could reconvene to take the issue up, but it’s extremely unlikely. Which means that the amendment has died by procedural maneuver. The significance of the recess vote as opposed to an adjournment vote is that Governor Mitt Romney cannot call the legislature back into session.

1. the game
The significance of the recess vote as opposed to an adjournment vote is that Governor Mitt Romney cannot call the legislature back into session.

It used to upset me terribly when a politician would refer to politics as a game. 'At this point in the game." I wanted to strangle him and yell, "This isn't a game, it's deadly serious!".

But the longer you live, the more you understand how it is that they come to see it as a game. A really complex and fun game.
