Conservatives claim that “liber-uhls” and the so-called “liberal culture” is one of self indulgence and abdication of responsibility. Conservatives call liberals selfish.
In fact. It’s the other way around.
When you find the world the way it is and want to change it to fit your paradigm of the world should work and in which direction it should spin, when you reject the reality of how people live their lives and seek to impose your version of morality- couched in high toned phraseology about right and wrong, then don the cloak of religiosity and claim to speak for the highest power- in your own voice- all as part of a naked, shameless grab for power- that is selfish.
Divisiveness and the politics of wedge issues are selfish.
Divisiveness to the point of splitting the nation permanently into two highly polarized parts around red and blue divisions- even to the detriment of the nation- is selfish.
That’s how it is when conservatives deny the rights of certain segments of the population, when they demonize, moralize and sermonize, allowing their judgementalism to blind them to the lives of real people in the real world.
The conservative movement’s pet punching bag, gay’s, gay-American’s and their right to live in loving committed, healthy relationships with all the rights and benefits and duties afforded to heterosexual relationships, when they seek to amend the constitution of this great nation and alter the thoughtful words of the founding fathers in order to abridge the human’s rights of another, when they seek to deny gays the right to participate fully in democracy and the defense of their nation by restricting gay-American’s from serving in the armed forces, when they seek to marginalize, demonize and ostracize gay’s in society they are behaving in a selfish and untruthful manner.
The truth is gays have always been with us throughout history, and always will be.
The truth is that being and behaving in concert with ones own nature is not illness or a corruption of nature, nor is it a failure of strict parenting models, nor is it a threat to families or society. The “radical gay agenda” is a radical bigoted right wing paranoid fantasy, mis-stating one groups quest for human rights and conflating it with fear mongering tactics.
The truth is that gay’s occur in nature...human nature. The truth is that until recently, gays came from straights...mom and dad, heterosexual pairings...and they came from “the best of families with good pedigrees”.
Mr. Cheney is proud of his daughter, Mary, who is known to be gay.
Mr. Newt Gingrich’s sister may not meet with Newt’s acceptance, but that apple fell from the same tree as Newt.
And now, in the December 2006 issue of Vanity Fair, we learn that the father of KKKarl, the late Louis Rove, abandoned his family when KKKarl was a mere 19 year old. In the Vanity Fair article, it is alleged that “friends of Louis Rove” said he was gay and “lived out his days with gay friends in Palm Springs.” The cited source was a book on KKKarl, “The Architect Karl Rove and the Master Plan for Absolute Power.”
I believe Americans are basically fair minded people. That’s why the radical right has had to pound and pound their anti-gay bigoted agenda. It takes repetition to get a message through. That’s how you sell toaster’s, car tires, wars and prejudice.
It takes educating oneself to the issues and then it takes a united voice with a coherent message to un-do the politics of hatred. If gays don’t, or won’t, do it, no one else will.
Conservatives are selfish, they see the realities of life, they know that gay people exist in their own families, they know that there is no dangerous homosexual agenda, the only agenda is a fight for dignity, fairness and the consistent acknowledgment of human rights extended to all, including gay Americans, fairness in the work place and the cessation of witch hunts in the military and society at large, to weed out gays.
It is selfish to deny others their human rights.
It is selfish to demand that all conform to ones own behaviors.
It is selfish to trample on the rights and dignity of others in a quest for “absolute power.”
Would appreciate your feed-back and thoughts and ideas on this topic.
