Initiative Launched To End Washington State LGBT Civil Rights Law
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/12/120806waRts.htm

A conservative Christian minister has begun work on a referendum to overturn Washington state's inclusion of gays and lesbians in its human rights law.

Rev. Ken Hutcherson has filed the initiative with the state. Its language must be reviewed by the state code reviser's office. If it gains approval Hutcherson would be able to begin collecting the signatures needed to place it on the ballot.

The statewide gay civil rights law took effect in June after another attempt to overturn it failed. Supporters of that attempt were unable to collect the required number of names.

The law adds “sexual orientation” to a state legislation that bans discrimination in housing, employment, insurance and credit. It made Washington the 17th state with laws protecting gays and lesbians, and the seventh to protect transgender people.

1. Rev. Hutcherson
there was this Jewish rabbi who said, "whatsoever you do unto the least of these, you do unto Me." He also said something about being more worried about the beam in your eye than the mote in someone else's eye. And then there was something about "judge not lest you be judged". Oh, but I forgot. Being a "Christian" you wouldn't be interested in what a rabbi said about 2000 years ago, would you? :sarcasm:

2. Hutcherson is an amazing pile of shit
Is it any wonder so many Americans are abandoning Christianity, with bigoted clergy like him?

3. He's following in Fred Phelps' footsteps

I don't believe for one second that Phelps gives a hoot about gays. What he and his family of tort lawyers want is for someone to do anything at all that they can sue for. If they could legally get away with it, and if there weren't any such thing as a gay, they'd be chasing single parent jews instead.

If you've ever seen the Westboro "compound" in Topeka, it's a full city block in a residential area where the members own adjacent houses and share a back yard abutting on the church property. There are lexuses parked out front, a large modern playground, and a community swimming pool. When SO and I drove by last year (and filmed it) we saw a couple of pleasant looking doo rag tatted fellers working on a monster bike in one garage giving us the double glare (I was praying, praying that they'd try to start something just so I could get a little exercise), and several blinds snapped shut on the second pass. These are clearly not happy shiny people, but it's a living - and apparently a decent one judging from the property and cars.

So this guy, same deal. He lives on donations, and he's found a socially acceptable rallying cry. He can't REALLY throw us under the bus, but he at least has to go through the motions to show his demented flock that he's actually doing something.

4. Hmm..maybe we should file a petition initiative
in which we ask the voters of the state of Washington to clearly define what is "religious" belief, and deny recognition of any "religious" group which attempts to impose theology on the entire population of the state.
