our children? What ignorance is this that we would inflict so much hate on our own sons & daughters? I do not understand how anyone can be so cruel and yet call themselves a christian....
And then we wonder why there is so much drug addition/alcoholism/suicide. What have we done...

2. The city of Nacogdoches should be so proud of itself... |

Finally, the truth about that little hell hole is getting some attention in the local press, amazing. I grew up in that miserable, medieval, hypocritical, bible thumping but hate-your-neighbor place. My father still lives there and I visit periodically, but stay as far from his 'friends' as I can get. They are all good republicans and hate the poor, blacks, women (unless the women are in the kitchen or bed), all Mexicans, and especially 'ragtops'. They are singularly, the most ignorant and dangerous types of humans I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.

3. I knew a guy several years ago from Oklahoma who died |
|
of AIDS - he went home to hospice up there, and in his final stages, when he was blind and in deep dementia and covered with tumors, his family brought in a local religious cable station and they filmed him and got him to repent the evil of his ways and aired this atrocity in the name of their god; his fucking so-called parents.
It goes beyond wilfull ignorance - people like that are going to be like that no matter how they are exposed, and it's not just against gays. It's against anything that isn't EXACTLY like they are. They are defective humans.
We only get a fixed number of heartbeats in this life. The best thing you can do for yourself if you are stuck in a situation like that is to stop wasting you heartbeats, because you will never get them back. Go somewhere that doesn't have that kind of mental squalor.
Advice on funerals for single gay men: don't bother. Have a non-religious memorial service and invite the family instead. If they don't want to come, so be it.

4. I'm amazed at how lucky I was growing up in the rural south |
|
My family was Christian, not fundamentalist like these freaks, and was mostly supportive (though I rarely speak to my father and two sisters). This story is unbelieveably sad and the mother, in particular, seems like a vicious bat-out-of-hell. It makes me laugh to think that they actually believe they represent a God of love when they are so obviously guided by hatred and intolerance.
It sounds like this child endured sheer misery for most of his life. I'm glad his friend is getting out because it doesn't look like things are going to get better any time soon. Bush and his boys will drag out "gay-marriage" again in 2006 (we're his favorite whipping boy) and guarantee that no real progress is possible in other areas of gay rights. Keep the red-necks pumped and feeling persecuted by those ravenous queers who won't stop until they take your baby boys!
May the poor kid rest in peace.

7. I went to a funeral of a very good friend |
|
who died of AIDS in 1997.
His family had a luncheon after at a local Eagles type club. It was a fright. The locals who were there demanded we all leave, called more of their friends... it escalated pretty quickly downhill from there.
It culminated in a fist fight with and the sheriff posted to allow people to eat and to assure the vehicles were not vandalized.
His family was HORRIFIED at the way they and all of J's friends were treated in their hometown.

JT and I both grew up in a small town, know just how rough it can be in those places. But we both got a very welcome surprise last weekend. A str8 couple took us to a LGBT friendly.......VFW!!!!!! The bartender was telling us that she'd even had her commitment service in the hall.
And all this in Dayton Ohio of all places.

9. May Chad rest in peace. |

I hope he finds the peace in death that he surely must have found hard to find in life.
I'm in the same boat as Jason. I'm dropping everything and moving away to a more accepting place.
