Sheriff Removes Gay Hate Remarks From County Website

(Guntersville, Alabama) Marshall County Sheriff Mac Holcomb under pressure from county officials has removed anti-gay remarks he posted on the official page of the Sheriff in the County's Web site.
<snip>
The sheriff, reflecting on growing up in the 1940s and 1950s, wrote: "Men were men and women were women and there was no mistaking which was which ... Homosexuality was very queer and a despicable act ... an abomination."
<snip>
But, Holcomb initially refused to remove the message. He has now taken it down from the county site and moved it to his personal website. He defends the remarks though, saying they are his personal beliefs.

After Hunter went public with his complaint about Holcomb he has been the recipient of hate mail from Holcomb supporters. He said it was discouraging until he learned that the hate remarks had been removed.

--------

I think that it's awful that Don Hunter, the man who blew the whistle on Sheriff Roscoe P. Holcomb, has been the victim of harassment.

I think we should send warm letters of encouragement to Mr. Hunter.

And perhaps find Sheriff Holcomb's "personal website" and respond appropriately to him, as well.

1. Does anyone have a link to his 'personal website?'
And a way to contact Mr. Don Hunter in support?

2. His personal website
(personal statement of God-sponsored hate)

http://www.macholcomb.org/

:eyes:

He seems to have confused “We dare defend our rights” with "I dare to trample on the rights of anyone who has a different religion than me."

4. Mac Holcomb's web page

I'm having trouble deciphering his WHOIS information:
http://www.betterwhois.com/bwhois.cgi?domain=macholcomb.org&x=66&y=14

Here's some of the header info from his "private" webpage:

OBVIOUSLY there is a problem here because He is using THE TAXPAYER'S COPY OF MS-WORD TO CREATE A PERSONAL WEB PAGE!!

ALSO...

If you enter an invalid page on his "personal" site, it automatically links back to the orignal taxpayer-owned site.

My guess (and I could be wrong) is that the page is still hosted on the taxpayer's dollars

If I enter a wrong page (like index2.html after the .org/) I don't get kicked back to the government site. How are you getting back there?

I'm not surprised about it being generated in the government copy of word though, because it was originally written on the tax payer dime - nobody is denying that. So he likely just copied the file and hosted it up himself. Or not, as you're getting linked back to the official page. I doubt he knows how to host it, because if he were web savvy it wouldn't have been created in Word, so maybe one of his faithful (no pun intended) employees took care of him.

Edit: I looked up the whois on both sites, and they do appear to be different.

6. Thanks. Here's what I did

Oh, by the way, it's MacHolcomb.org , not Holcomb.org .

Anyway, I tried to access the images directory, and it defaulted back to the municipal page.

Main page:
www.MacHolcomb.org

I entered:
http://www.macholcomb.org/images

it then defaulted back to:
http://www.marshallco.org/www/

...which is the original municipal page.

I think that either MacHolcolmb.org has domain masking, or else is improperly registered?

7. Thanks!
I went back and changed holcomb to macholcomb in my post, that was just a typo on my part. You're right on the images part, yep. That's a bit suspicious.

Dear Editor,

My view has always been and will continue to be that homosexuality is against the moral code and behavior based upon the Old and New Testament. It is my personal belief that we are committed to living, as close as possible, by the moral principles taught by Jesus Christ and the whole counsel of God as revealed in the Bible. I am not tolerant of behaviors which destroy individuals, families and our culture. After all, traditional values are based upon biblical foundations and principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

My views on law enforcement and morality were widely known when I began my first campaign. In the fall of 1994, while running for sheriff for the first time, I placed a quarter-page red letter political ad in all three county newspapers. It said, “I believe in the Lord’s word that this despicable act is an abomination.”

<snip>
God is the only judge of this sin… not Mac Holcomb; however, my personal conviction and God’s word is obvious to me that homosexuality is an abomination and nothing less. Of course, we can twist biblical scripture into that which satisfies our personal agenda but then again, does that make our lifestyle or choices right with God?
